‘You are a heretic’: Radical Pope Francis heckled by elderly Greek Orthodox priest in Athens

The following contains editorial content which is the opinion of the writer.

ATHENS, GREECE- Full disclosure…this writer is not a Catholic, and therefore am not beholden to some kind of hero worship toward the head of the Catholic church.

As such, it was with somewhat amused interest that we witnessed what a lot of people have been thinking; that is that Pope Francis is more radical leftist than leader of the Catholic Church.

On Saturday, Francis arrived for a meeting with the head of Greek’s Orthodox Church, leading to an elderly Greek Orthodox priest to let him have it as he arrived, shouting “Pope, you are a heretic!” to Francis as he arrived at the residence of Archbishop Ieronymos in Athens, the country’s capital.

The priest, who was not identified fell to the ground as he was led away by police, according to Breitbart. It appeared that Francis didn’t notice the incident as he walked into the home for a private meeting with the Greek Orthodox leader.

Francis has been met by a number of small protests on his previous stop, Cyprus, which is also primarily an Eastern Orthodox area of the country.

Inside the meeting, reports are the two leaders had a cordial meeting, and shared a joint call for Christians to work together to protect the environment and care for migrants, with Ieronymos saying he welcomed the pope “with a feeling of honor and fraternity.”

The visit by Francis marks 20 years since Pope St. John Paul II visited Greece for the first time since what has been referred to as the Great Schism, a disagreement between the western and eastern branches of the church which split the Christian church into the Roman Catholic and Eastern Orthodox churches in 1054.

While the majority of disagreements between the two sides was theological, much of it was also cultural, according to the Greek Reporter.

Paul used the occasion to apologize for the since “by action or omission” committed by Catholics against the Orthodox over the centuries. That apology was reiterated on Saturday in front of Ieronymos and other Orthodox priests.

“If the world community, the leaders of powerful states, and international organizations do not take bold decisions, the ever-threatening presence of vulnerable refugee women and children will continue to grow globally,” the Greek Orthodox leader warned.

“Together we must shake the rocks and the walls against the intransigence of the powerful of the Earth.”

The meeting was part of a three-day state visit to Greece by Francis.

Prior to the meeting with the Greek Orthodox leader, Francis spoke at the Presidential Mansion in Athens.

In speaking to Greek President Katerina Sakellaropoulou, Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis and opposition leader Alexis Tsipras, Francis noted that “without Athens and without Greece, Europe, and the world would not be what they are today—they would be less wise and less happy.”

For more on the radical Pope Francis and why he isn’t exactly popular with police officers, we invite you to:

In his new book, “Let Us Dream,” Pope Francis defended the protests against police brutality as well as the Black Lives Matter protests that unfolded in the wake of George Floyd’s death. He also denounced those protesting the COVID-19 lockdowns and restrictions.

The Daily Wire reported that in the new book, the Pope decried police brutality as an affront to human dignity and encouraged people to march in opposition.

He wrote:

“Abuse is a gross violation of human dignity that we cannot allow and which we must continue to struggle against.”

Then, regarding the protests against the COVID-19 lockdowns in Europe and elsewhere, Pope Francis said that people were:

“Striking against measures that governments must impose for the good of their people constitute some kind of political assault on autonomy or personal freedom!”

In his book, he got even more direct by comparing the two groups of people, failing to note that the Black Lives Matter protests gave way to riots and looting in the streets. In the United States, anti-lockdown protests do not appear to have sparked similar widespread violence. He wrote:

“You’ll never find such people protesting the death of George Floyd, or joining a demonstration because there are shanty towns where children lack water or education. They turned into a cultural battle that was in truth an effort to ensure the protection of life.”

In another segment of the book, the Pope praised journalists who covered how the pandemic impacted the poor, but he slammed media organizations that he claimed:

“Used this crisis to persuade people that foreigners are to blame, that the coronavirus is little more than a little bout of flu, and that restrictions necessary for people’s protection amount to an unjust demand of an interfering state.”

He wrote:

“There are politicians who peddle these narratives for their own gain, but they could not succeed without some media creating and spreading them.”

Pope Francis also expressed empathy for those sick with COVID-19, citing his own health experiences when he had one of his lungs removed in his youth. He wrote:

“I know from experience the feeling of those who are sick with coronavirus, struggling to breathe as they are attached to a ventilator.”

He added:

“For months, I didn’t know who I was, if I would live or die, even the doctors didn’t know. I remember hugging my mother one day and asking her if I was about to die.”

The 150-page book, which was ghostwritten by his English-language biographer Austin Ivereigh, is due out on December 1st. Ivereigh said:

“You feel like you’re sitting across from him.”

The Daily Wire also recently reported that Pope Francis met with NBA players just this past week to discuss “social justice activism in sports”:

“A delegation of NBA players and executives from their union met with Pope Francis at the Vatican on Monday as training camps are set to open next week and a new season is scheduled to tip-off in less than a month. The private gathering was reportedly initiated by His Holiness and hurriedly planned.”

According to a statement issued afterward by the National Basketball Players Association (NBPA):

“The meeting provided an opportunity for the players to discuss their individual and collective efforts addressing social and economic justice and inequality occurring in their communities.”

Catholic Bishop calls out police-bashing Joe Biden: ‘Claims to be faithful Catholic… denies church teaching’

August 27th, 2020

This editorial is brought to you by a staff writer for Law Enforcement Today.

WASHINGTON, DC – It should be common knowledge that members of the Democratic Party are doing whatever they can to entice votes from anyone.

For the last few years, they have pushed legislation and political talking points regarding illegal aliens, and desperately tried to paint President Trump as being racist. They have also attempted to align themselves with groups like Antifa and Black Lives Matter, groups responsible for millions of dollars in damages to cities, loss of life, and injuries to hundreds of police officers.

Now, they are making a desperate appeal to Catholics, hoping to get their vote.

The Democratic Party has made it a point to talk about Democratic Presidential Nominee Joe Biden and his Catholic faith. In addition, the party has made it a point to feature members of the Catholic faith at the conference. All with the hope that people of the Catholic faith will view the Democratic Party as being acceptable to vote for in the general election.

While the Democrats are hoping to gain the favor of the Catholic base, some people are questioning if Democratic Vice Presidential Nominee Kamala Harris is the right person to be supporting in the general election.

The reason for this concern is her anti-Catholic views on items such as same-sex marriage, sex changes, and abortion, all of which are condemned by devout teachings of the Catholic faith.

Issues have also been raised about her questioning of now-U.S. District Court Judge Brian Buescher during his confirmation hearing in 2018. The reason she and Democratic Sen. Mazie Hirono had issues with Buescher at his confirmation hearing was not because of any law-related issue, but because he was a member of the Knights of Columbus.

For those who do not know, the Knights of Columbus is a Catholic faith-based ministry and charity which was founded in 1882.

Its website says:

“Founded on the principles of charity, unity, and fraternity, the Knights of Columbus was established in 1882 by Father Michael J McGivney, assistant pastor of St Mary’s Church in New Haven, Conn., and a group of parishioners. Their intent? To bring financial aid and assistance to the sick, disabled and needy members and their families.”

With a faith-based organization that caters to helping those in need, what could possibly be cause for concern?

Cause for concern to the Left is that the Knights of Columbus stands by strong Catholic ideologies that prohibit same-sex relationships, sex changes, and abortions.

During confirmation questioning, Hirono said to Buescher:

“The Knights of Columbus has taken a number of extreme positions.  If confirmed, do you intend to end your membership with this organization to avoid any appearance of bias?”

Harris then followed up with the question:

“Were you aware that the Knights of Columbus opposed a woman’s right to choose when you joined the organization?”

Their line of questioning brought immediate criticism from Catholic League President Bill Donohue.

He said:

“Sens. Harris and Hirono are playing a game: they are engaged in selective religious profiling and sexism.”

Former U.S. Ambassador to the U.N. Commission on Human Rights Ken Blackwell also chimed in.

He said:

“[Democrats should] end this tactic of engaging in religious discrimination to destroy people nominated for public office.”

Penny Nance, the president of Concerned Women for America, said:

“This isn’t just about the Knights of Columbus or Catholics, this is an ongoing attack from the extremist left of the Democratic Party to silence people of faith and run them out of engaging in public service based on their religious beliefs. It is pure and simple religious bigotry.”

Clearly, abortion rights, which go against Catholic beliefs, are a hot-button issue for Harris.  Recently, the Little Sisters of the Poor won a U.S. Supreme Court case which enabled them to follow their religious beliefs and not provide contraceptives or abortions to their employees. When this happened, Harris stood in opposition, calling the ruling “dangerous” and a “setback” for women’s rights. Biden also spoke out against the ruling, and vowed to have it reversed if elected to the presidency.

Supreme Court hands win to religious group healthcare – yet Biden vows to reverse it

Both Harris and Biden have stood out publicly against the teachings of devout Catholics, but now they want their support to win the presidency. While some Catholics are willing to vote for them, the devout ones must question their teachings, beliefs and faith before they cast their vote.

Editor note: In 2020, we saw a nationwide push to “defund the police”.  While we all stood here shaking our heads wondering if these people were serious… they cut billions of dollars in funding for police officers.  And as a result, crime has skyrocketed – all while the same politicians who said “you don’t need guns, the government will protect you” continued their attacks on both our police officers and our Second Amendment rights.

And that’s exactly why we’re launching this national crowdfunding campaign as part of our efforts to help “re-fund the police”.
