Whistleblower: Giant BLM flag displayed at U.S. naval base in Africa – ‘This is unacceptable’

Share:

AFRICA – According to a military whistleblower, a naval installation in Africa displayed a large Black Lives Matter flag and permitted clothing emblazoned with “BLM.”

Breitbart reports that Senator Tom Cotton (R-AR) shared a detailed complaint from a whistleblower who submitted an anonymous report on a complaint page set up by Cotton and Rep. Dan Crenshaw (R-TX).  This page was recently established to gather information on the infiltration of “woke ideology” in the military.

According to Breitbart, the whistleblower shared:

“In the barracks area of the installation, a massive BLM flag had been hung from the third story of the barracks, draping over both the second and first rows under it.

“The flag was probably fifty feet long, by fifteen feet wide.

“In addition to this, there were many service members that were wearing BLM t-shirts that sported additional BLM slogans, doo rags, and hats, all with BLM plastered on them.”

Adding that seeing the displays of support for BLM was “offensive and distracting… especially in a combat zone,” the commenter stated that “it is a very politically driven and polarizing group, that has no business being advertised on a military base.”  The commenter further noted that others on base felt the same way.

The whistleblower continued by stating he or she was told that:

“…it was the view of the commander that this movement was not political, and non-partisan, therefore, he had no issue with its advertisement.”

When the whistleblower asked if a MAGA flag would be allowed, however, he or she was told that it would not, “as that would be a very political statement, and cause a lot of offense to some people.”

The matter of the BLM flag had no associated date, but display of such a flag on base is prohibited in accordance with a Pentagon directive dated July 16, 2020.

This complaint about the BLM flag and apparel was but one of many submitted by Senator Cotton at a Senate Armed Services Committee hearing on Thursday, June 10, 2021.

At that hearing, the Senator reported that he had received “several hundred” whistleblower complaints thus far.

According to Breitbart, another complaint was from a Hispanic officer in the Marine Reserves who was subjected to “a training session on police brutality, white privilege, and systemic racism.”

This whistleblower wrote:

“The discussion was dominated by high ranking (and white) Colonels and a younger junior Hispanic officer, who seemed extremely well prepared for the session with numerous articles to cite for the evidence of the military being systemically racist.

“I would later learn that the junior officer is a former DNC staffer.”

No dissenting opinions were permitted, the Marine added, even from minorities like himself.

The event was demoralizing, he continued, saying:

“Coupled with the clear religious discrimination, it was the most shocking event I’ve been involved in during my over decade of government service.

“The sessions effect had drastic negative effect on unit morale, with some officers electing to drop to the [Individual Ready Reserve] as opposed to continuing with the unit. I do not know if they are willing to come forward as well.”

Not only was the Marine not allowed to express a dissenting opinion, but he also reported that “his unit encouraged turning in anyone who believed that ‘All Lives Matter.’”

Some whistleblowers noted explicit bias in training that stemmed from Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin’s “stand down” to address so-called extremism in the military.

One wrote:

“As a member of the US military I have never seen the level of political bias as I now see in the US military.…

“I witnessed the bias in the extremism stand-down day ordered by the SECDEF.

“Case in point are the extremism case examples (from the DoD guide) which contained only right-wing examples.

“There were no examples of extremism from left-wing (Antiffa) (sic) or Islamic Jihadism (Al Queda or ISIS).”

The whistleblower continued:

“I seem to remember Major Nidal Hassan killing over 10 service members at Fort Hood over 10 years ago but evidently that this kind of extremism does not appear to be a concern anymore.

“I also remember Antiffa (sic) led riots over the summer 2020 which caused billions of property damage and killed several people.”

One DoD civilian and retired U.S. Air Force officer attempted to express his opinion on the SECDEF’s stand down, only to be “counseled.”

In a “private conversation,” this civilian and veteran shared that he “did not appreciate the new SECDEF accusing the DoD workforce of ‘extremism’ and of being ‘the enemy in our ranks.’”

He added in his complaint that the counseling was:

“Clearly an effort to suppress my First Amendment rights.

“I did not disrespect SECDEF. I stand by what I said.”

Another anonymous service member reported being told that he and other enlisted personnel “needed to support Black Lives Matter because it is ‘morally right.’”

Other personnel, Senator Cotton shared, received messaging on the purported inherent racism of military institutions, and of America itself.

For instance, Cotton noted in the hearing, a member of the Special Operations community reported that they were being instructed that “the U.S. Special Operations community is racist.”

Similarly, Cotton reported that one Army officer commented that his general officer “told him that the entire U.S. Army is racist.”

One midshipman at the U.S. Naval Academy said:

“[C]lassmates are calling America a fundamentally racist place, and that this sentiment is not contested by school administrators.”

Some required exercises were quite heavy handed in their messaging about “privilege.”

Cotton related:

“An airman told us their unit was forced into a racist exercise called a ‘privilege walk,’ where members of the wing were ordered to separate themselves by race and gender, in order to stratify people based on their perceived privilege.”

Such messaging has evidently also made members of racial minorities uncomfortable.

For instance, Cotton shared:

“One African-American officer disparagingly said, and I quote, ‘The Navy thinks my only value is as a black woman.’”

Cotton added:

“And not the fact that she is a trained military specialist.”

Also at the hearing, Cotton pinned down Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin on some aspects of the “woke” indoctrination.

He asked, for instance:

“If troops are subjected to the kinds of trainings drawing on critical race concepts like America and our military is inherently racist, or certain races are inherently privileged, other races are inherently victimized.

“Given what you’ve said, should they report it up their chain of command?”

Austin responded:

“Yes, they should.

“They’ve always had that ability to do that, and I would recommend that in the future.

“I would also say that diversity, equity, and inclusion is important to this military now, and it will be important in the future.

“And so, we are going to make sure we, you know, our military looks like America, and that our leadership looks like what’s in the ranks of the military.”

Cotton replied:

“And I agree with that.

“Like I said, the military has always been one of the most diverse institutions in our society, where you can get ahead irrespective of the color of your skin, or who your parents are, or where you came from.

“And I’m glad that we agree on that.

Cotton concluded:

“This is not about diversity in general, though.

“This is about a very specific kind of anti-American indoctrination that is seeping into some parts of our military, based on the whistleblower complaints we have received.”

Biden administration works toward undermining military, assisted by ‘woke’ US Army recruitment video (op-ed)

May 18, 2021

This editorial is brought to you by a staff writer for Law Enforcement Today.

When the leader of a nation undermines that nation’s military, the result will almost undoubtedly be weakening of the armed forces, whose purpose is of course to defend that country from internal and external threats.

President Joe Biden appears to be putting the United States on that path.

Many will remember, not too fondly, Biden’s jab at the military when he was visiting Al Dhafra Air Base in 2016 and referred to those present as “stupid bastards” and a “dull bunch.”

Campaign staffers naturally passed these words off as a joke, but often spontaneous, off-the-cuff remarks can be quite a revealing insight into the attitudes and priorities of a person.

Case in point:  the Biden administration’s modest increase in defense spending in the fiscal 2022 budget.  $715 billion is earmarked for the Defense Department, which represents a 1.5 percent increase over the current fiscal year.

This figure falls short of an anticipated need to adjust for inflation with a 3 to 5 percent increase in defense spending.  In fact, according to Defense News, the $715 billion figure is “flat when adjusted for inflation.”

In another overt effort to undermine the armed forces, Biden’s administration has declared a purge in the military, to be overseen by radical leftist Bishop Garrison, Senior Advisor to the Secretary of Defense for Diversity and Inclusion.

Action in this vein began on February 5, 2021, when Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin called for a 60-day stand down to combat “extremism” (read: patriotism, conservatism, and support for Trump) in the military.

When that 60 days passed, Austin issued a memo detailing further action, which included plans to update questionnaires on “current or previous extremist behavior,” adjustments to training and education, social media screening, and an updated list of “prohibited extremist activities.”

Austin named Garrison as point man for the efforts, thus placing an anti-Trump proponent of critical race theory in charge of gutting the military of supposed “extremists” –  and potentially removing those who hold the Constitution dear.

The effects of such a purge have already played out in the case of Space Force Commander Lt. Col. Matthew Lohmeier, who was removed from his post after he went on a podcast to discuss his self-published book, Irresistible Revolution: Marxism’s Goal of Conquest & the Unmaking of the American Military.

In the podcast, according to Military.com, Lohmeier discussed various U.S. institutions, such as colleges and the military, that he thinks are “increasingly adopting leftist practices.”

He also asserted that:

“these practices — such as diversity and inclusion training — are the systemic cause for the divisive climate across America today.”

Lohmeier also criticized a pamphlet he received at the time of Austin’s stand down order, a missive which referred to the events at the Capitol on January 6, 2021 as “an example of extremism,” but did not discuss the destructive riots in the wake of the death of George Floyd.

With regards to Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin, he said:

“I don’t demonize the man, but I want to make it clear to both him and every service member this [diversity and inclusion] agenda, it will divide us, it will not unify us.”

All that was enough to blackball Lohmeier, who was relieved of his post earlier this month.

A Space Force spokesperson said in an email:

“This decision was based on public comments made by Lt. Col. Lohmeier in a recent podcast.”

The email continued:

“Lt. Gen. Whiting has initiated a Command Directed Investigation on whether these comments constituted prohibited partisan political activity.”

So yes, speaking against Marxism in the military and standing against a leftist agenda can and will put members of the military firmly in the cross-hairs of those who would seek to purge the military of those patriots that the woke consider ‘extremists.’

If it is dismaying to the reader that the current administration’s actions toward the military appear to put combat readiness, military preparedness, and patriotic values on the back burner in favor of ‘wokeism,’ it will come as quite a blow that one branch of the military itself seems to have gone all-in with the woke mentality and social justice rhetoric.

The U.S. Army has produced a series of five two-minute recruiting videos entitled “The Calling.”  These videos describe, in cartoon form (yes, you read that correctly; they are cartoons), the life stories of five individuals who joined the Army to follow their “calling.”

One such cartoon that has especially come under scrutiny is the video story of U.S. Army Corporal Emma Malonelord, which at present has received 609 “likes” and 27,000 “dislikes” on the GoArmy official YouTube channel.  Perhaps not surprisingly, comments are disabled.

Malonelord narrates her story, which began “in California, with a little girl, raised by two moms.”

She describes her young years as “a typical childhood,” playing violin and dancing ballet, but adds, to cartoon footage of a Pride parade:

“I also marched for equality.  I like to think I’ve been defending freedom from an early age.”

Malonelord goes on to describe how one of her mothers was paralyzed in an accident, but was able to recover and walk down the aisle to marry Malonelord’s other mother.

She then discusses her college life at UC Davis, where she realized:

“I began feeling like I’d been handed so much in life.

“A sorority girl stereotype.

“Sure, I’d spent my life around inspiring women, but what had I really achieved on my own?”

She adds:

“I needed my own adventures, my own challenge, and after meeting with an army recruiter, I found it.

“A way to prove my inner strength and maybe shatter some stereotypes along the way.”

The video’s audience has taken to the Twitterverse to voice objections to the messaging in the video, with one user writing:

“Army releases recruitment advertisement featuring lesbian wedding  – Our new “woke” military would be a joke if it didn’t compromise our readiness and national security.”

Another user, an Army veteran according to his profile, wrote:

“@USArmy… Warriors fight and win wars. Going woke is going to get Soldiers killed. You should choose another profession…

“The Army posts their own super woke recruitment ad that features a lesbian wedding.”

Other users pointed out the stark differences between the Army’s touchy-feely cartoons and the show of strength exhibited in recruitment videos from the likes of Russia and China.

One such video from Russia, which can be viewed in the embedded tweet below, embraces a show of power and, yes, aggression, while it features a muscular recruit undergoing rigorous training and battle exercises.

A recruitment video from China is even more in-your-face, featuring normalization of the reality of leaving loved ones behind, shows of precision and discipline, and documentation of explosive battle scenes.

A side by side comparison of China, Russia, and the US Army recruitment videos can be seen in the embedded video below.

This is not to say that all of the U.S. military, or at least those in charge of publicity, are putting ‘wokeness’ ahead of preparedness and a muscular show of offensive and defensive capability.  At least not yet.

But the Biden administration, through its stranglehold on DOD funding and its full-speed-ahead efforts to remove Constitution-loving patriots who have the audacity to speak out against Marxism and other ‘woke’ policies, seems to be favoring and nurturing a military that is more concerned about pandering to social justice issues than it is about defending this great nation.

Cartoon depictions emphasizing social issues, rather than more traditional combat preparedness and shows of strength, can only serve to bolster Biden’s apparent attempts to continue to undermine our military’s capabilities.
