DEL RIO, TX – With Texas clearly having severe issues related to the frigid temperatures, the Democratic mayor of Del Rio is “pleading” with President Biden to halt the release of detainees by the Border Patrol within Del Rio and the surrounding communities.

Del Rio Mayor Bruno Lozano recently posted a video to YouTube that was a addressed to President Biden, citing his concerns over the ongoing issues in Texas and the current practice of the Border Patrol releasing detainees in concurrence:
“Mr. President, my name is Bruno Lozano – mayor of the city of Del Rio, Texas – and I am pleading and requesting with you to please put a halt to any measures regarding the release of immigrants awaiting court dates, into the city of Del Rio and surrounding areas.”
Mayor Lozano pointed out that the city simply doesn’t, “have the resources available to accommodate,” the influx in migrants that have been released by the Border Patrol in light of the new operational instructions the CBP is functioning under.
The mayor explained that if President Biden doesn’t come up with a plan quick for these released detainees, then he’ll be forced to use his powers as the mayor to bar the released detainees from the city:
“I will have no choice but use the extreme measure under the emergency declaration as the mayor of the city of Del Rio, Texas to refuse entry of migrants awaiting court dates into the city of Del Rio.”
To put matters into perspective, Del Rio is a city that hosts roughly 50,000 residents – so upward fluctuations in the population in any measure during a period with issues related to water, power and grocery shortages can have a undesirable impact.
During a montage featuring the barren grocery stores in Texas, Mayor Lozano says during the video:
“If you do send these individuals into our community, we will be forced to make a decision to leave them without resources under these dire circumstances.”
“I’m asking you to stop. Please make another plan for this federal issue.”
In an effort to at least see a measure of compromise, Mayor Lozano noted in the video that if President Biden can’t stop the releasing of detained migrants into Del Rio and the surrounding areas – then the Biden administration should provide the means to accommodate the released detainees.
But outside of the aspects related to lacking resources in the forms of electricity, water and groceries – Mayor Lozano also pointed out that there’s issues related to the pandemic with these releases ongoing within border communities:
“This administration has taken a firm stance on COVID-19 protections for Americans. I’m asking you to ensure the health and safety of all our tax paying citizens along the border are treated with the same urgent consideration.”
“Releasing the migrant population without any COVID-19 protection protocols is undermining your commitment to the stance against COVID-19.”

Without mincing his words, Mayor Lozano spelled it out clear as day that with the current pandemic, the release of migrants into the community is just too compounding of an issue with all that Texas is enduring at the time:
“I cannot mix the migrant population with Del Rio residents that are extremely vulnerable and have been displaced due to the extreme weather.”
“We may be a small town that is off of your radar, but we are a community of 50,000 people who need your attention.”
It’s currently unclear whether President Biden, or any relevant person within his administration, has heard the request as of this writing.

We at Law Enforcement Today reported on aspects related to the planned release of thousands of migrants along the U.S./Mexico border earlier in February.
Here’s that previous report.
WASHINGTON, D.C.– After Biden signed an executive order that halted all construction of the border wall at the United States-Mexico border, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) announced that it would begin processing and admitting at least 25,000 immigrants on February 19th.
"DHS plans to process and release about 300 migrants a day in both San Diego and El Paso, with plans to release about 100 migrants a day in Brownsville."https://t.co/LpzCwlbMSv

Internal communications that Breitbart News has reviewed ultimately revealed that DHS plans to release the immigrants in San Diego, CA; El Paso, TX; and Brownsville, TX, which are all locations that the Biden administration reportedly refused to divulge to the Associated Press (AP) when asked.
According to the AP, the Biden administration announced its plans for tens of thousands of people who are seeking asylum and have been forced to wait in Mexico under the former President Trump administration, will be allowed into the U.S. while their cases travel through immigration courts. Authorities said:
“The first wave of an estimated 25,000 asylum-seekers with active cases in the ‘Remain in Mexico’ program will be allowed into the United States on Feb. 19.”
They plan to start slow, with two border crossings each processing up to 300 people a day and a third crossing taking fewer numbers. In San Diego, DHS plans to process and release 300 immigrants a day within two weeks of February 19th and the same will be done in El Paso.
In Brownsville, DHS will process and release no more than 100 immigrants a day. In a news release, DHS officials said that the immigrants will be “tested for COVID-19 before entering.”
However, the U.S. Internal Communications at DHS does not mention plans to require COVID-19 tests for immigrants.

On Biden’s first day in office, DHS suspended the policy for new arrivals. Since then, some asylum-seekers picked up at the border have been released in the U.S. with notices to appear in court.
Administration officials said that asylum-seekers will be released with notices to appear in court in cities close to or in their final destinations, typically with family.
A source close to the matter told Breitbart News that the order to release “Remain in Mexico” immigrants into the U.S. interior came from top officials at DHS, mainly deputies of Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas and the White House.
As recently reported, the Biden administration has surged the release of border crossers into the U.S. interior since restarting the Catch and Release program. In the first 10 days of February, DHS released at least 2,000 border crossers into the country.
For comparison, in December 2020, before “Remain in Mexico” was ended, DHS had released just 11 border crossers. The “Remain in Mexico” releases will come as more people are getting stopped crossing the border illegally since Biden took office, challenging the administration in its early days.
Raul Ortiz, deputy chief of the Border Patrol said that more than 3,000 people had been stopped in each of the previous 10 days, compared with a daily average of 2,426 in January 2021.
Since January 27th, about 50 to 80 adults and children have been arriving on a daily basis at Catholic Charities of the Rio Grande Valley in Texas, which temporarily houses people released by the Border Patrol.
The group’s executive director, Sister Norma Pimentel, said that the charity tests for COVID-19 and sends anyone who tests positive to a hotel for isolation. Jewish Family Service of San Diego housed 191 asylum-seekers the first 10 days of February after they were released.

This number was up from 144 in January and 54 in December. They are quarantined in hotels for 10 days. Federal immigration agents have also had to deal with an influx of Haitian illegal immigrants after DHS canceled deportation flights.
Breitbart News exclusively reported on that incident, which has crowded federal facilities along the U.S.-Mexico border as agents are being ordered to release the illegal immigrants into local communities.
