Police chief builds Trump Tower in his front yard – critics say police shouldn’t “choose a side”

MORTON, WA. – A small-town police chief, Roger Morningstar, is getting a lot of attention for a massive structure, labeled Trump Tower, that he built in his front yard in Morton, Washington.

Morningstar constructed a 10-foot-tall Trump tower on his lawn. The tower is in the shape of a “T,” though wider at the base.

The gold paint sparkles in the sunlight, and has 21 windows, close to a dozen lights, and even drainage holes to protect it when it rains. It even has golden lions at the feet.

Community and personal friends helped him to construct it.

Morningstar says of his tower:

“I kind of like it, I know it’s a little gaudy, but, hey, maybe Trump will see it and give us a budget and we can improve on it.”

The thought of adding a little helicopter pad on the side, and a helicopter labeled Trump crossed Morningstar’s mind, but he decided the tower was enough for his lawn.

This is what inspired him, according to the Daily Chronicle:

“I see people putting out ginormous flags or I’ve seen guys on the internet turn an entire field into a Trump 2020 flag and I thought, ‘Hey, it would be cool to have a mini Trump Tower in the front yard just to show support for the President.’”

Morningstar has a lot of campaign signs he puts in his yard during the fall, and around election time. Since the 2020 election is approaching, Morningstar decided to show his unwavering support for President Donald Trump.

Why did he take such a drastic measure to show his support? Despite the fact that it probably was a creative outlet for him, Morningstar told Kiro 7:

“I’m a veteran, and I’m a police officer, and I’ve never seen someone show that much support from the Office of the President.”

The structure is getting a lot of attention in the small town of Morton, a city of nearly 1200 people in 2018, and Lewis County. Lewis County has over 80,700 people.

Anybody from a small town knows how quickly word gets around there.

Morningstar claims he had a lady drive down from Olympia, just over an hour away, so that she could have her and her daughter’s picture taken in front of the handmade Trump tower.

When asked, people gave their own opinions.

Craig Johnson, wears a maroon shirt and sunglasses. His hand rests on some wood. When asked about it he responded:

“Good for him, yeah, that’s awesome.”

Charles Edgar, a man in a tan shirt with palm trees on it, and a bright orange mask around his neck, gives a sly smile.

“It’s his yard, he can do what he wants.”

Sheryl Armstrong, a woman with a purple paisley shirt, allows her glasses to sit on her blue mask. She speaks softly giving her honest opinion:

“I thought it was ridiculous, and I don’t think a police chief should be taking one side or another.”

Social media has also weighed in on the matter. On Kiro 7 News post there were 108 comments, with ten shares. In the comments, some loved it, some hated it, and some just asked why?

Now, Morningstar expected some negative comments on social media. How could one not? But some took him aback.

He said:

“I was really surprised and hurt by the accusations of it being some kind of racist symbol, which it absolutely is not. I’m half Jewish, and I’m half Mexican, but I’m all American.”

The level of vitrol coming from out of the woodwork concerns Morningstar, but he has the support of the Mayor of Morton, Dan Mortensen, who said:

“It appears to be a light-hearted rendition of the Trump Tower and he supports President Trump. I don’t know why anyone would be upset about that, no different than putting a Biden sign in my yard. I guess I just fail to see the issue.”

Morningstar hopes his political project sparks meaningful conversation despite the negativity. He said he’ll always stand by his homemade Trump Tower. It was probably a project that brought the community closer.

After the election is over, Morningstar has said that he’ll put the west-coast version of Trump tower in his backyard. He said it will be a perfect playhouse for his daughter.

Here’s more on support for President Trump out of New Jersey.

NORTH WILDWOOD, NJ – Proud President Donald Trump supporters sought to break the world record of a boat parade on September 5th of this year.

Organizers of the event said that they had 1,200 boats the last time they held the event and hope to break the world record with this one, with 2,400 boats.

Boat parades for the President are not something that is new, at least not for the last few months.  The President’s supporters have organized many of these events throughout the US.

The event in New Jersey reportedly contained military veterans, police officers and their families in the attempt to break the record.  The event was named Law Enforcement Officer and Veterans Support Boat Parade.  One of the organizers for the event, Chris Molla, said:

“We’re hoping to double our number. Last time was 1,200 [boats], so 2,400 would be nice. Three thousand was our goal, and we’ll see if we meet it.”

A video of the event was posted on Twitter which showed a large amount of boats sailing in North Wildwood, New Jersey.  The boats were adorned with multiple Trump 2020, American, and Thin Blue Line flags.

The official record for boat parades sits at 1,180 which was done in September of 2014.  This event happened in the South China Sea for Malaysia Day celebrations.  Whether or not this group had enough boats in the parade to break that record will be determined later when the final counting is done.

Chris Molla spoke again about the parade:

“It was amazing last time, and I think it’s going to be an even bigger event and bigger, a bigger show for everybody to see and just the whole town and everybody get involved and show support for the people that need it right now in this climate.”

Molla added:

“It’s a nice peaceful organization of boats coming out to support our law enforcement officers, our veterans and our President. I have a lot of family and friends that are on the job, and I wanted to do something to show our support for our law enforcement in a peaceful way that’s not going to bother any of our law enforcement, clog roads, bridges or anything like that.”

The President himself has noticed the boat parades that have been occurring throughout the country in his honor.  In May, the President tweeted:

“Thank you very much to our beautiful ‘boaters.’ I will never let you down!”

In a similar event in Clearwater, Florida, supporters tried to break the record on August 15th with a Pro-Trump boat parade.  The organizers for the event, The Florida Coffee Company and Conservative Grounds issued the following statement:

“On August 15th 2020, More than 1,181 TRUMP Supporters will attempt to break the record for the largest boat parade in history.  This is gonna be the MOAB – Mother of all Boat Parades. The current world record according to Guiness Book of World Records was achieved in Malaysia in 2014 and had a recorded 1,180 boats.  In honor of the 45th President Donald J. Trump we will beat the world record in his name.”

Conservative Grounds then explained why they were helping to organize the event on their website:

“Conservative Grounds was created to be an alternative to the typical liberal American coffee establishments.

As many American businesses are turning away from conservative values, Conservative Grounds is embracing them. We support Law Enforcement, the Military, MAGA hats, the 2nd Amendment, Pro-Life, God and traditional way of life.”

Whether or not any of the Trump boating events broke world records, one thing is abundantly clear. Supporters of the President are numerous and are not afraid to show appreciation for him or law enforcement.  It is also interesting that there has not been one single mention, in any of these events, of violence.

Here’s a throwback to last month’s event in Florida:

CLEARWATER, FL– On Saturday August 15th, Trump supporters aimed to break the record for the world’s largest boat parade near Florida’s Clearwater Beach.

The Florida coffee company, Conservative Grounds, organized the event.

A statement on their website states:

“On August 15th 2020, More than 1,181 TRUMP Supporters will attempt to break the record for the largest boat parade in history.

This is gonna be the MOAB… Mother of all Boat Parades…The current world record according to Guiness Book of World Records was achieved in Malaysia in 2014 and had a recorded 1,180 boats.

In honor of the 45th President Donald J. Trump we will beat the world record in his name.”

In true patriotic fashion, the company’s Facebook page has said:

“WE HAVE DECLARED DONALD J TRUMP ESSENTIAL,”

The page then goes on to outline the event rules, and adds:

“Bring all your Trump Gear lets make this a big one !! We will have a drone taking video.”

Conservative Grounds explains their creation on their website saying:

“Conservative Grounds was created to be an alternative to the typical liberal American coffee establishments.

As many American businesses are turning away from conservative values, Conservative Grounds is embracing them. We support Law Enforcement, the Military, MAGA hats, the 2nd Amendment, Pro-Life, God and traditional way of life.”

Founder Cliff Gephart discussed the event in a video on Thursday, August 13th:

“We’re all just nothing more than a group of volunteers,”

He goes on to say:

“We’re not getting paid for this. We’re donating all of our time and the money we raise to political campaigns come this fall and to charity. So we’re doing nothing but trying to do our best to make this the coolest Trump parade ever,”

As of today, August 16th, there has not been an official boat count, but Conservative Grounds released this statement on their Facebook page:

“Did we set a new world record? YES.

Now we have to prove it.

Guinness World Records needs an exact number of boats and PROOF.

We are working diligently to determine the exact number of boats. Please be patient.

If you joined the Flotilla at Belleair Causeway and traveled to Welch Causeway you can still register. Go to hugeboatparade.com and sign up no later than Tuesday. We will contact you within a few days for information needed to identify your boat.

If you registered and did not complete the Flotilla, please email [email protected] and tell us you didn’t make it.
