ERLANGER, Ky. – A suspect who is wanted for allegedly opening fire on Kentucky police officers is still on the run after more than a week, police say.
Jacob Julick is wanted for two counts of attempted murder of police officers and possession of a handgun by a convicted felon. If convicted, he faces between 20 and 50 years behind bars.
According to reports, the shooting took place around 8 a.m. Thursday in the 3100 block of Dixie Highway in Kentucky. Lakeside Park Police reported that the incident took place at a Speedway gas station when officers attempted to conduct a traffic stop.
Police said that Julick fled from the car and fired a gun at officers. No one was injured in the exchange, and reports say that officers did not return fire.
“The passenger fled from the vehicle. As he was running from the Lakeside officer, he actually fired shots,” said Erlanger police Detective Kyle Thornberry.
Julick then allegedly ran through a parking lot of AAMCO behind businesses. Police said the driver of the car Julick fled from is being questioned and is cooperating with officers, according to a report from WWLT.
The scene is clear. The car the suspect was in has been towed away. Again, suspect hasn’t been found, police stop searching, unclear right now what the initial traffic stop was for. The 27-year-old suspect’s mother pleaded for her son to turn himself in.
“Jacob, I love you. I have never given up on you. I need you to turn yourself in. I need you to get the gun, give it to the cops,” she said. “Don’t die on me. I love you. turn yourself in, I’ll be there for you when you get out. I just need you alive, and I just need you to know that I love you and that you’ll be safe once you turn yourself in. Please, son, don’t die on me today. Just turn yourself in. Don’t get killed. Just turn yourself in.”
She said that her son was good until Jacob’s father died from cancer in 2012.
“My boys just wilded out after that, I’ve never been able to change them a day since,” she said. “They’re all good, but the streets make them bad.”
Authorities said Julick is a white male, five-feet-11-inches tall, weighing about 160 pounds
Julick was last seen wearing a gray American Fighter T-shirt, jeans and red shoes. He has a tattoo on the left side of his neck and a slight mustache. Police originally said the suspect was wearing a red shirt. Thornberry said people should be aware that Julick has most likely changed his appearance.
