CONEY ISLAND, N.Y. – We know. It’s a roller coaster of a headline and it couldn’t possibly be anymore ironic. But stay with us. It’s worth it.
On Sunday, three New York City Transit Police officers were visiting a Baskin Robbins store on Surf Avenue in Coney Island.
For those of you who don’t know what Baskin Robbins is, it’s basically a fast food restaurant that serves ice cream and other goodies. And in this location, it’s combined with a Dunkin Donuts.

It just so happens that while these officers were satisfying their craving for something sweet, a man who had just walked into the store adjusted his pants. And when he did… a gun fell out.
And it was loaded.
Apparently not even noticing that the loaded weapon had fallen out onto the floor, the man stumbles around the restaurant for a few moments.

That’s when officers see the gun on the ground and where it came from. They quickly rush over to apprehend him and take him into custody, securing the gun from the ground.
The man was reportedly a repeat convicted felon and was arrested at the scene.
After the strange sequence of events, the NYPD Transit police tweeted “Seriously, this actually happened.”

3 of our cops are in the local Dunkin/Baskin Robbins. A fella walks in, adjusts his pants & out drops a loaded gun on the floor. Now the repeat felon carrying it is in custody, all because a Transit cop had a craving for cake batter ice cream? (seriously, this actually happened) pic.twitter.com/9Ue6IHQi2g

The social media post said that the arrest was a success due to one of the officers having “a craving for cake batter ice cream”, bringing them to the Baskin Robbins.
Mike the Cop posted surveillance video of the incident.

Our take?
Since we’re glad no one was hurt and the officers took a gun and a repeat felon off the street, this one is pretty laughable. But we guess the suspect won’t be laughing when he goes back to prison. Either way you look at it, this is a story for the books!
