ELK MOUNTAIN, Wyo. – Dramatic video of a tractor-trailer blowing over onto a Wyoming Highway Patrol car demonstrates the power of wind gusts on the high plains.

The truck was traveling on Interstate 80 in southern Wyoming Tuesday when it toppled onto the parked patrol car. No one was inside the police unit. Lt. David Wagener says the truck’s driver and a passenger were not hurt, reported CBS News. But the police cruiser was destroyed.

Police Dash Cam Video Showing tractor-trailer blowing over:

Three Wyoming State Troopers were on scene. They were providing care for motorists involved in previous collisions when the big rig blew over, reported KGWN.

Wind gusts up to 90 mph were recorded around the time of the crash.

A camera in another patrol car caught the wreck: Wind nudges the trailer, then knocks over the rig, which falls onto the cruiser. The skidding truck barely misses the car filming.

Lt. Wagener said the highway was closed to lightweight, high profile vehicles because of the wind, and the driver of the truck was cited. Wyoming Highway Patrol says this is a good reminder to follow high wind advisories and closures when you are traveling.
