In Baltimore, at least, you are four times more likely to be a murder victim if you have a criminal history.  Law enforcement authorities in Baltimore released some interesting statistics about murderers and their victims. According to the Baltimore Sun, both victims and suspects share ties to the criminal justice system.

Killings in Baltimore decreased during 2010, but 80% of murder victims had criminal records.  In addition, 90% of the suspects also had criminal records, with forty percent on probation and more that 50% with previous gun arrests.

While no one desires to blame the victim, these statistics should be somewhat reassuring to law-abiding citizens.
