Urgent: Panamanian official warns terrorists are mixing in with migrants trying to reach U.S.

PANAMA CITY, PANAMA- If you listen to the Biden administration, it’s only families and “dreamers” coming across the porous southern border of the United States.

However one drills deeper, it’s much more ominous, and that fact was driven home last week by Panamanian authorities. They have detected terrorists trying to blend in with migrants from other countries.

According to Breitbart and other sources, officials in Panama have found terrorists among those claiming to be from countries such as Haiti, Cuba, Africa, and others attempting to reach the U.S. and Canada through that country, according to Panama’s top diplomat.

That diplomat, Erika Mouynes, Panama’s foreign minister authored an article published by Foreign Policy which begged the United States for help while describing the situation as a humanitarian crisis.

Panama is typically used as a point of entry from South America, specifically something called The Darien Gap, a tropical forest described by Breitbart as a “lawless and dense wilderness” which makes up parts of Panama and Columbia.

Analysts say this area is one of the most hazardous area for those fleeing South and Central American countries where war, persecution, and poverty is pervasive.

Because of lax visa rules in many South American countries, a lot of these “migrants” from other countries often enter there, then make their way up through Panama, then Columbia and further north through Mexico into the U.S.

Mouynes has urged Latin American countries to strengthen their visa requirement background checks to help stem the tide of migrants transiting Panama and then going north.

“A vast number of migrants crossing the Darien [jungle] started their journey in South America, arriving through ports of entry in countries where visa requirements are less strict.

As a result, members of terrorist organizations and sanctioned parties have found their way into Panama, where they are not permitted to enter in the first place. Panama’s biometric identification measures have recognized, and detained individuals linked to extremist groups attempting to pass through the country with migrants.

Second, the nations of the Americas must work collaboratively to control the flow of migration. Since 2016, the governments of Panama and Costa Rica have worked together to put in place a joint policy to secure safe passage of migrants through our territories based on each country’s ability to ensure migrants’ care and safety.

Panama has also recently reached an information-sharing agreement with Columbia to monitor the flows of migrants headed for the Darien Gap. Currently, more than 1,000  migrants arrive in Panama every day from Columbia, and only 50 to 100 are allowed to proceed into Costa Rica. Needless to say, the situation is untenable.”

Newsmax reported that despite being charged with overseeing the border crisis, Kamala Harris never made her way to Panama in order to address the “root causes” of the current border crisis at the US-Mexico border. That fact was addressed by Mouynes.

“Vice President Kamala Harris’s recent trip to Central America—her first official mission abroad—is emblematic of the weight the White House has placed on the issue of migration,” Mouynes wrote.

“Unfortunately, however Panama was left off the itinerary of her two-day trip, which included stops in Guatemala and Mexico. This despite the unprecedented number of migrants attempting to cross our border through a treacherous area of jungle known as the Darien Gap.”

Continuing, she wrote:

“The problem of uncontrolled migration is not isolated to Texas, California, New Mexico, or Arizona,” she wrote. “Farther south, on the Panamanian border, a parallel crisis is unfolding as unprecedented numbers of migrants from Haiti, Cuba, Africa, Asia, and the Middle East attempt to cross the Darien Gap en route to Canada and the United States.

“The situation here is not a uniquely North American or Panamanian problem. It is an international humanitarian crisis that knows no borders and requires immediate collaboration. Panama, for our part, looks forward to working closely with the Biden administration to formulate an effective policy response.”

Mouynes did agree with the Biden administration policy of addressing the “root causes” of America’s migrant issue.

Last month, Bloomberg reported that according to Mouynes, Panama was dealing with a five-fold increase in migrants from Africa, Cuba, and Haiti, with those from Haiti and Cuba making up the bulk of those trying to enter Panama illegally.

As far as Harris’s trip to Central America, members from both political parties, and the American people generally gave her low marks for her performance during the trip.

Mouynes also warned that the impact of the migrant issue would go well beyond Panama’s borders, which it pretty much already has, and urged the international community to take action to stem the tide.

Biden’s lax border policies have been widely blamed for causing the current crisis not only at the U.S.-Mexico border but also Mexico and Central American countries such as Panama, with migrants from all over the world, including some who are not true migrants but international terrorists, coming to the United States.

“We cannot single-handedly protect these migrants or address the underlying problems that have driven them into our borders. The situation will not be resolved if the international community continues to approach it as a U.S. problem or a Panama problem. In reality, it is everyone’s problem,” Mouynes said.

Law Enforcement Today has reported extensively on Biden’s border crisis. We recently reported that Democrats have allocated over $800 million to border security in the Middle East. For more on that, we invite you to:

WASHINGTON, DC – Democrats want to spend millions on ‘border security’ in the Middle East, but nothing on the US-Mexico border wall.

On Tuesday, the Democrat-controlled House Appropriations Committee released their Department of Defense funding bill that includes $870 million in taxpayer money for “border security” measures in foreign countries such as Jordan, Lebanon, Egypt, Tunisia, and Oman.

The Democrat budget plan strips all funding for construction of a border wall at the United States-Mexico border, despite a national immigration crisis with illegal aliens flooding into the country at record levels.

The Democratic plan earmarks $150 million for Jordan to help “enhanced border security.” The budget allocates $500 million to be used “to provide assistance to the government of Jordan to support the armed forces of Jordan.

Sections 8148 and 8149 of the spending bill state:

“SEC. 8148. Of the amounts appropriated in this Act under the heading ”Operation and Maintenance, Defense-Wide”, for the Defense Security Cooperation Agency, $370,000,000, to remain available until September 30, 2023, shall be available to reimburse Jordan, Lebanon, Egypt, Tunisia, and Oman under section 1226 of the National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2016 (22 U.S.C. 2151 note), for enhanced border security, of which not less than $150,000,000 shall be for Jordan…

SEC. 8149. Up to $500,000,000 of funds appropriated by this Act for the Defense Security Cooperation Agency in ”Operation and Maintenance, Defense-Wide” may be used to provide assistance to the Government of Jordan to support the armed forces of Jordan and to enhance security along its borders.”

In the Homeland Security budget also released Tuesday, House Democratic plan to strip more than $2 billion in border wall construction funds previously allocated. The reduction brings the total funds available for border wall construction to zero.

$100 million of the previously authorized funds will be transferred to the Department of Interior.

The plan also includes no funding for additional border patrol agents at a time illegal immigrants are taking advantage of President Biden’s lax policies to enter the U.S.

Princeton Policy Advisor Steven Kopits projected that the first year of Biden’s term will be one of the “worst years for illegal immigration”:

“For the calendar year as a whole, we are projecting 1.2 million southwest border apprehensions, much as we have for the last two months.

“This would make Calendar Year 2021 among the ten worst years for illegal immigration in US history and place us squarely back into Clinton-era numbers.”

The budget plans come just as Biden is reportedly considering ending one of the last remaining effective tools being used to help contain the surge of illegal immigrants crossing the southern border.

Title 42, a policy of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) designed to control the spread of COVID-19, allows Customs and Border Protection to turn away migrant families in Mexico.

Title 42 was enacted by the Trump administration in March 202 to help prevent immigrants from spreading the virus inside the United States.

The Biden administration is now considering ending the policy under pressure from immigration rights groups, human rights groups, and the American Civil Liberties Union.

Title 42 has been used to turn away tens of thousands of illegal immigrants at the border, including asylum seekers. Also permitted to be returned to Mexico under Title 42 are unaccompanied minors who have been separated from their families and sent across the border.

The White House stressed that the plan to end the policy is only under consideration, and a final decision has not been made.

Many experts are concerned that ending Title 42 during a national immigration crisis at the border could be disastrous.

Former Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) Director Thomas Homan warned:

“(Ending Title 42) will send a clear message to the entire world — grab a kid, illegally enter our border, and we will release you into the interior of the U.S.

“It will act as a powerful incentive to be exploited by human smuggling organizations and act as a magnet for the migrants,” Homan said. “It will result in increased suffering and inhumanity as migrants will be willing to sacrifice their lives knowing they will be allowed entry into our country.”

In March, former Customs and Border Protection (CBP) Mark Morgan and other DHS officials warned the President against ending the Trump-era policy:

“We specifically told them, if you ended [Remain in Mexico], if you ended Title 42, if you ended the asylum cooperative agreements with the Northern Triangle countries, you will cause, you will drive an unmitigated crisis that will make 2019 pale in comparison.

“We told them that again and again. We told them that the surge numbers would skyrocket.”

Under the Trump administration, Title 42 was responsible for the return of 91 percent of border crossers. Under the Biden administration, that number has dropped as DHS Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas has only utilized the policy in about 64 percent of cases.

Report: Border Patrol says 250,000 illegal immigrants ‘got away’ into the U.S. in the first six months

June 13, 2021

DEL RIO, Texas – U.S. Customs and Border Protection reported that the total number of illegal immigrants who escaped capture, or “got-aways”, and entered the country illegally this year will reach 250,000 as of June 13.

“Got-aways” are loosely defined as migrants crossing the border and escaping after being observed by border patrol either through visual observation of officers, video from aircraft, or physical evidence like footprints on the ground.

The method of counting is limited, and experts suspect the actual number is much higher than the calculation.

The report comes from an agency source speaking exclusively to Breitbart News. The source said that 50,000 escaped over the last 30 days. On average, 1,600 migrants escape capture each day.

In comparison, 69,000 migrant “got-aways” successfully evade Border Patrol in all of 2020, according to the report. According to Breitbart:

“The metric is usually not publicly released. It is achieved by counting illegal immigrants who ultimately escape apprehension after being observed by aircraft and camera systems.

“Border Patrol agents also use traditional sign-cutting techniques to spot footprints. It is not a perfect investigative method. Sources say the got-away count is usually lower than reality.”

Critics say that the lenient policies of the Biden administration and the increased humanitarian workload on the Border Patrol have contributed to the number of illegal immigrants escaping into the United States.

The Biden administration came under fire from the nation’s sheriffs in April for failing to control the ongoing border crisis. Hundreds of sheriffs from dozens of states sent a letter to the President pushing him to change course.

The letter, signed by 275 sheriffs from 39 states warned the President of dangerous repercussions if he continued to allow illegal immigrants to flow into the country. The letter, released by the Federation for American Immigration Reform, read:

“America’s Sheriffs are deeply troubled about the dangerous impacts your administration’s border policies are having on our citizens, legal residents, and communities.

You must act now before our nation’s public safety resources are overwhelmed with the criminal side effects of unchecked illegal immigration, including transnational gangs, guns, dangerous drugs, and human trafficking.”

In the letter, the sheriffs address the crime associated with the flow of illegals entering the country:

“As this situation continues to evolve, more families will be exposed to the violence associated with drug trafficking and transnational gangs. More parents will suffer the loss of their children, not because they were irresponsible, but because of exposure to criminal illegal alien violence caused by the reckless and irresponsible policies of your administration.

“In a myriad of ways, you and your administration are encouraging and sanctioning lawlessness and the victimization of the people of the United States of America, all in the name of mass illegal immigration.”

The sheriffs did not mince words when appointing blame for the crisis. President Biden’s promises of immigration leniency and reduced immigration enforcement orders are to blame, according to the letter:

“In the interests of ending the undermining of our laws and the increased risks to the safety and security of the people of the United States of America, we respectfully request that you immediately reverse course on your pro-illegal immigration policies, resume the border wall construction, and embrace the common-sense, public-safety-supporting border policies of the previous administration.”

The Biden administration has refused to call the situation at the border a crisis, but the numbers are making that refusal difficult to continue. Unaccompanied children have proven especially difficult for the President.

In March, border agents encountered nearly 19,000 children at the border, the largest number ever recorded in a single month.

The federal government has more than 20,000 children in detention facilities. Government projections show there could be more than 35,000 migrant children to care for at the end of June.

In April, emails directly to federal employees asking them to volunteer for paid leave to help care for the unaccompanied minors. The emails were sent to employees at agencies including the Department of Homeland Security and NASA, according to a report by The New York Times.

In an Operational Update for May 2021, the U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBD) said it encountered 180,034 persons attempting entry along the Southwest Border during the month, a one percent increase from the same time period in 2020.
