The NYPD Internal Affairs Unit continues to investigate officers allegedly connected with Facebook comments directed against West Indian immigrants.   While the investigation into “The No More West Indian Parade Detail Page” is still active, NY State Assemblyman Hakeem Jeffries is introducing legislation which would prevent officers from living outside New York City.  Jeffries believes this legislation will assist officers in better understanding the communities which they serve.  Critics of this proposed regulation point out that the $42,000 starting salary recruits makes living within city limits very difficult in view of high housing costs.

Meanwhile, the American Civil Liberties Union is supporting the officers under investigation stating that the Firs Amendment ismost under threat when people are saying obnoxious, hateful things.
