University identifies “problematic” words including ‘grandfather’, ‘housekeeping’, ‘minority’ and ‘lame’

The following article contains editorial content which is the opinion of the writer.

SEATTLE, WA- The absurdity of the unhinged left knows no bounds. The latest in leftist stupidity comes from (where else) the west coast, this time Washington State. The University of Washington has published a “language guide” which refers to a number of words Americans use every day as “problematic,” the New York Post reports.

The university’s IT department released what they refer to as a “inclusive language guide” that spells out a number of so-called “problematic words” that they define as “racist,” “sexist,” “ageist,” or “homophobic.” Seriously.

For example, words such as “grandfather,” “housekeeping,” “minority,” “ninja,” and “lame,” are all considered to be an issue.

“Lame,” for example is a problem because it’s “ableist.”

“This word is offensive, even when it’s used in slang for uncool because it’s using a disability in a negative way to imply that the opposite, which would not be lame, to be superior,” the guide read.

Stupid? You betcha.

But it goes on.

“Minority” implies a “less than” attitude toward a certain community.

“When ‘minority’ is used to refer to other races or abilities, used as a generalized term for ‘the other’ and implies a ‘less than’ attitude toward the community or communities being discussed,” the guide states.

The word “grandfather” is, of course racist. Yup, racist. The guide says that it is a “problematic word” because the term was “used as a way to exempt some people from a change because of conditions that existed before the change.” Talk about word salad.

“’Grandfather clause’ originated in the American South in the 1890s as a way to defy the 15th Amendment and prevent black Americans from voting,” the guide reads.

Remember…people get paid a lot of taxpayer money to produce this ridiculous claptrap.

But of course it goes on…and on…and on.

“Housekeeping” is a no-no because it can “feel gendered.” Of course.

Anything of course which contains the word “man” is automatically considered sexist, so no more “manpower,” “man hours,” or “man-in-the-middle.” Not inclusive enough.

“Preferred pronouns?” Uh oh, no can do. Oops, we violated the guide. They are considered “problematic” because the term “preferred” infers that “a person’s pronoun is optional.”

“No can do,” “spirit animal,” and separating groups based upon certain colors is also, of course, “racist” or is “culturally appropriative.”

For example, using “red,” “white,” or “yellow” to separate different teams for example is, the guide says, “based on racist tropes.”

“Using colors based as racist tropes—labelling [sic] ‘white’ as good, ‘black’ as bad, ‘red’ as attackers, or ‘yellow’ as excluded third parties—is offensive,” the guide states.

“Spirit animal” Nope, “cultural appropriation.”

Not only are these ridiculous mandates dropped on students and staff at the university, they also lecture vendors about their requirements.

Employees are encouraged to contact vendors who use the “problematic words and phrases” and ask them to avoid terms that emanate from “racist, ableist, and/or sexist origins.”

The web page includes a sample prompt for employees to use to lecture vendors on using “proper” words.

“Unfortunately, in working with your product/service we have identified language that can be considered offensive due to its racist, ableist, and/or sexist origins,” the email prompt reads. “Can you let us know what efforts you are undertaking to move away from this language so as to create a more inclusive product/service?”

2022 America. Unbelievable.

NEW YORK, NY- Yeonmi Park has experienced a dictatorship up close and personal. As a defector from North Korea, Park has a unique perspective, and what she has seen in the United States has her shocked.

Park initially looked at the United States as a free country, where free thought and free speech was not only permitted it was welcomed. That was until she attended college here.

The New York Post reports that Park’s opinion of the U.S. changed as a college student at Columbia University in New York. She became aware of what she looked at as an anti-Western sentiment within the classroom and a focus on political correctness that led her to believe that “even North Korea isn’t this nuts.”

“I expected I was paying this fortune, all this time and energy, to learn how to think. But they are forcing you to think the way they want you to think,” she told Fox News.

“I realized, wow this is insane. I thought America was different, but I saw so many similarities to what I saw in North Korea that I started worrying.”

Park, 27, told the Post she couldn’t believe she would be required to do “this much censoring of myself” at a university campus in the United States.

“I literally crossed the Gobi Desert to be free, and I realized I’m not free, America’s not free,” she said.

Park, who fled North Korea at the age of 13, said her voyage from the communist dictatorship took her and her family first to China, then South Korea before moving to New York to attend school in 2016. She transferred to Columbia from Barnard College, and in 2015, wrote a memoir detailing her escape from North Korea called In Order to Live.

While in China, Park and her mother were caught by human traffickers and sold into slavery, according to Legal Insurrection. Park and her mother were eventually rescued by Christian missionaries, who helped them escape into South Korea. So she is someone who has firsthand knowledge of living in an oppressive environment.

At Columbia, she said she was given so-called “trigger warnings” by her professors, language from readings in advance so students could opt out of reading or even sitting in class during discussions, she said.

“Going to Columbia, the first thing I learned was ‘safe space,’” she said.

“Every problem, they explained to us, is because of white men,” with numerous discussions on “white privilege” which she said reminded her of the caste system in North Korea, where people were classified and categorized based on who their ancestors were, she said.

Breitbart said that Park noted there was also an intense focus on gender issued, including preferred pronouns which occurred in nearly every class, which she stated left her confused.

“English is my third language. I learned it as an adult. I sometimes will say ‘he’ or ‘she’ by mistake, and now they are going to aske me to call them ‘they’? How the heck do I incorporate that into my sentences?” she asked. “It was chaos. It felt like the regression in civilization.”

Park is concerned that American educational institutions are blocking the ability of students to think for themselves, comparing it to her homeland.

“In North Korea I literally believed that my Dear Leader [Kim Jong-un] was starving,” she recalled. “He’s the fattest guy; how can anyone believe that? And then somebody shoed me a photo and said, ‘Look at him, he’s the fattest guy. Other people are all thin.’ And I was like, ‘Oh my God, why did I not notice that he was fat?’ Because I never learned how to think critically.”

Park recalled one class, Western Civilization where a professor asked students if they had a problem with the name of the topic. She said most students actually raised their hands, concerned over the term “Western”—saying it lent a “colonial” slant to the discussion.

Park was also criticized, she told Fox News, because she had mentioned enjoying the writings of Jane Austen.

‘I said, ‘I love those books.’ I thought it was a good thing,” she told Fox. “Then she said, ‘Did you know those writers had a colonial mindset? They were racists and bigots and are subconsciously brainwashing you.’”

She noted that in North Korea, students were constantly reminded about the “American Bastard.”

“I thought North Koreans were the only people who hated Americans but turns out there are a lot of people hating this country in this country,” Park told the Post.

In Park’s book, she spoke of her escape from North Korea and life in that repressive regime. She said Americans seem to be very willing to give away their rights, not realizing that once gone they may never get them back.

“Voluntarily, these people are censoring each other, silencing each other, no force behind it,” she said.

“Other times (in history) there’s a military coup d’état, like a force comes in taking your rights away and silencing you. But this country is choosing to be silenced, choosing to give their rights away.”

Park’s life experience saw her grow up in a country where she witnessed people dying from starvation and said that Americans seem to be obsessed with oppression even though she says they have not ever witnessed real oppression firsthand.

“This is completely nuts, this is unbelievable,” Park said. “I don’t know why people are collectively going crazy like this or together at the same time.”

She noted that it’s one thing for people to be brainwashed in North Korea, since people don’t have access to the Internet and information is tightly held from the people. She said Americans have a lot more access to information, which is why she doesn’t understand how they can be so brainwashed.

“In some ways they (in the US) are brainwashed. Even though there’s evidence so clearly in front of their eyes they can’t see it.”

The Post said they reached out to Columbia University for comment, which was not provided.

Last year, we wrote about North Korea and a threat against the United States by that communist dictatorship. For more on that, we invite you to:

NORTH KOREA – Apparently, North Korea is at it again with making threats against the United States.

The North Korean embassy based out of Moscow recently issued a statement while celebrating the 70th Anniversary of the Korean War that alluded to enabling some kind of “sensational event” that will dismantle America.

The statement reads as follows:

“This year, the U.S. military has been carrying out various kinds of military maneuvers in South Korea and its vicinity with the purpose of striking North Korea quickly.

“A new round of the Korean War will add a particularly sensational event to the history of mankind, which will put an end to another empire, whose name is the United States.”

Whether there is any truth to the threat made by North Korea is debatable, as the country has been engaged in verbal threats against the United States for the past decade.

Yet, to be quite frank – the United States doesn’t need any help in dismantling the country.

Mainly because we’re already doing a fine job of that on our own.

Just consider that there’s already an ongoing “sensational event” plaguing the United States from the inside that has seen once beautiful cities look more like dilapidated barrios from cartel-run portions of Sinaloa.

Businesses have been burned to the ground, livelihoods destroyed, numerous people beaten, robbed, and even murdered. All because of a man who died in police custody that took place in Minneapolis in May.

Ironically, nearly everyone in the United States mutually agreed that what happened to George Floyd was completely unjust – and the nation collectively sought justice. But for some, the pursuit of justice wasn’t enough. Bad actors, miscreants, vandals, and the ilk wanted full-blown chaos to ensue…and it damn sure happened.

Somewhere along the way, the death of Floyd got contorted into a racially motivated crime. It’s important to note, however, that there’s currently nothing to substantiate race playing a factor in his death.

But that didn’t matter, because the incident served as the fodder to then create a narrative that there’s an ongoing war being waged against black Americans that is being emboldened and enacted by police officers.

And swarms of the country bought the narrative and began acting out. While only a small amount of the population has engaged in riotous behavior, many of the illegal acts have been cheered on via the peanut gallery present on social media.

LET has a private home for those who support emergency responders and veterans called LET Unity.  We reinvest the proceeds into sharing their untold stories. Click to check it out.

Murdered officer's grave desecrated before headstone even placed

When others are not cheering on the illegal activity ongoing throughout the country, others are trying to excuse the behavior by quoting Dr. Martin Luther King when he said:

“Rioting is the language of the unheard.”

Except, those who are circulating that quote are ignoring the portion where he spent nearly two minutes condemning riots.

Dr. King during his speech was only pointing out why riots happens sometimes, not that rioting is commendable.

Aside from poor talking points meant to justify lawlessness, we’re seeing vandals removing statues of anything they don’t like with practically uninhibited impunity.

Those who were once nothing more than memes to mock social justice warriors have now become encouraged to commit felonious acts while being painted as “protesters” and “activists.”

It’s disgusting.

Oh, and just look at what is happening to police officers these days.

Aside from the amalgamation of Twitter handles going up that tout the acronym ACAB (All Cops Are Bastards), police are getting attacked simply because they’re police officers.

Criminal acts that should land someone inside of a prison for three-to-five years are instead giving people fifteen minutes of fame online.

The masses have somehow been convinced that defunding police departments is going to solve problems related to crime and racism – which there’s no rationale behind said movement.

A reasonable person could conclude that if less police resources exist, then criminals will likely become more emboldened to commit crime.

Furthermore, reducing police presence in areas doesn’t magically end racism. On top of all this nonsense, America’s youth has been indoctrinated to believe that people who are white are incapable of experiencing racism.

We’ve seen city blocks overtaken by anarchists, while the police stations become seemingly abandoned and city officials pretend like it’s just some peaceful protesting.

To be honest, there’s nothing else that can really plague America from a proverbial pillared structure aspect more than what is ongoing. Whatever “sensational event” North Korea is planning can and likely will be thwarted by our country’s military anyway.

But what is happening from the inside is by far more detrimental.

Are we in a Civil War? Not the 1861-1865 version, but it seems we are awfully close. (Op-ed)

This editorial is by a former Chief of Police and current staff writer for Law Enforcement Today.

Someone, anyone please explain to us what President Theodore Roosevelt has to do with racial injustice in 2020.

George Washington? Abraham Lincoln, for God’s sake?

What does the name of pancake syrup, or instant rice, or ice cream bars have to do with racial injustice?

If you said “nothing”… you are absolutely right. What it does have to do with is fundamentally transforming our country, gutting our history, and praying at the altar of political correctness. If anyone thinks this is fixable at this point, we believe you are wrong.

Joe Biden thinks he can bring the country together. Seriously? He thinks he can convince fully half of the American people that dismantling statues that have stood in some cases for over 100 years will somehow bridge the gulf that divides our country?

He thinks that the part of the country who respects our police and military will accept those who are inclined to destroy those who protect us? He’s more delusional than he appears.

If anyone thinks that Black Lives Matter is a group rather than a noun, you are sadly mistaken.

This group, driven by a Marxist ideology, wants nothing short of a complete overturn of our Republic.

You do not even need to dig deep in order to find out what their goals are. It’s written right on their website. Black lives matter as a way of thinking is a noble cause. Black Lives Matter as a group wants to destroy our country.

Free thought is out the window. People who do not buy into the narrative that all whites are by nature of their birth racist, and that they are gifted with some form of divine privilege, as if they don’t have to work hard for everything they have, are excoriated.

People have been fired from their jobs for using what used to be their right to free speech. Oh, we know…the Bill of Rights is intended to protect people from an intrusive government.

Got it.

However, since when are people crucified for their beliefs? Since last month apparently. No longer can someone say “all lives matter. That doesn’t fit the narrative and that’s racist!

Our colleges used to be a place where debate was encouraged, where a free exchange of ideas was not only welcome but was encouraged.

The thought was that opening hearts and minds to opposing points of view would possibly lead to consensus, or short of that, at least an understanding of the fact that not everyone thinks the same way.

Not anymore.

College professors who express opposing views in order to encourage debate are doxed, threatened, and more often than not, fired.

A little over a week ago, Atlanta police officer Garrett Rolfe shot and killed a man who turned around and attempted to shoot at him with a Taser.

Rolfe, believing his life was in danger, fired at the suspect, Rayshard Brooks, killing him.

Rolfe was fired, then subsequently arrested, and charged with eleven felonies.

Melissa Rolfe, the officer’s stepmother took to social media to defend her stepson. What was the result? She was fired from her position as Human Resources Director of Equity Prime Mortgage. For defending her stepson.

Paramount Network canceled Cops, A&E canceled their most popular show, LivePD, Nickelodeon was slated to drop the police dog from Paw Patrol, and Lego stopped marketing their police play set after the death of George Floyd in Minneapolis last month.

We are waiting for the Antifa play set where they characters loot, set buildings on fire, and beat people up. Because obviously, those are better role models than police officers.

We have Nancy Pelosi having portraits of House Speakers who formerly served the confederacy removed from the capitol.

Pelosi and other Democrats turn a blind eye to statues of Lincoln, Jefferson, Washington, and Columbus being destroyed, while ignoring the fact that they themselves embraced a man who was a KKK member and founded the West Virginia KKK chapter in Sen. Robert Byrd.

Where are the calls for bridges, tunnels, and buildings with HIS name on them being renamed or having the plaques jack-hammered out?

Are we headed for a civil war? There seems to be consensus among some that if not by actual military confrontation but in a virtual sense we indeed are in the midst of such a civil war. There is clearly a breakdown in civil order.

We have never been this divided.

What should have been a moment when our country came together, the death of George Floyd which was universally condemned across political and ideological lines, groups such as Black Lives Matter and Antifa saw it as an opportunity. And thus far they have not missed that opportunity.

American Thinker refers to the current situation as “An Uncivil War.” They specifically address the following as components of such a war:

  • Irreconcilable conflict between left and right;
  • Belligerence and vituperation (vitriol) that passes for a national conversation;
  • Sporadic acts of violence, flash mobs, and organized riots erupting in every corner of the country;
  • The dismal lack of local and state leadership
  • Orwellian ministers of truth, otherwise known as digital platforms, controlling and censoring information;
  • A rabid feminist network intent on destabilizing cultural traditions and morals;
  • A president betrayed by his own generals and party senators;
  • A rogue enclave set up by malcontents and domestic terrorists in the middle of an American city;
  • Racial mayhem fomented and exploited by a class of partisan criminals

During the Civil War there were two clearly identifiable “sides”—the Union and the Confederacy. This “war?”

Take your pick. Incompetent leaders such as mayors and governors, embodied most identifiably by Seattle Mayor Jenny Durkan and Washington Gov. Jay Inslee, who have allowed a mob to control part of downtown Seattle for over two weeks unabated.

You have police chiefs such as in Fort Worth, Texas who is refusing to have rioting mobs prosecuted.

You have sports “stars” like Lebron James, who himself wouldn’t dare live in the inner cities or send his children to inner city schools, lecturing the rest of us on OUR racism.

Not enough for you? How about CEOs, such as Dan Cathy of Chick fil-A suggesting that in order to express repentance for wrongs committed in the past by some, people should “find somebody that needs to have their shoe shined, we need to just go right on over, and shine their shoes.”

Cathy said this after shining the shoes of a black Christian rapper.

You want the ultimate show of submission?

How about police chiefs taking a knee with people who would just as soon see them dead, or laying on the ground on their stomach for over eight minutes with their hands behind their backs, while fellow cops are getting shot, stabbed, having bricks thrown at them, and getting run over.

Then there is social media. If anything, ever came along which has stoked the fires of hate and misinformation, it’s social media.

You have “platforms” such as Twitter, Facebook, YouTube, LinkedIn and Google which are fomenting disinformation, flagging certain points of view as “hate speech,” while allowing others to spew any venom or crap they want to.

Articles or posts which are pro-police are erased or demonetized, while people or groups who advocate for the killing of police officers, the destruction of property, or promoting violent “protests” are allowed to remain up because they do not “violate community standards.”

Who else is on “the other side?” Well you have the Southern Poverty Law Center, the ACLU, Nation of Islam—all spewing hate and misinformation, and which are allowed unabated on the Internet.

Then there is the president. Abandoned by generals (much as Lincoln was), dealing with for the most part a party of gutless Republicans who refuse to stand up to the mob, and a media complex that is overwhelmingly trying to undermine him at every turn, he faces an uphill battle.

There are some media voices who have been resolute in identifying what is going on, such as Tucker Carlson, Mark Levin, Rush Limbaugh and Sean Hannity, however they are somewhat drowned out by the major networks, along with the New York Times and the Washington Post, with their accomplices in social media.

Much as in 2016, there is likely a significant silent majority who support the president and are on the side of law and order. Unlike those who are trying to destroy our country and undermine the rule of law, this group is quiet, likely in large part because they are afraid of being excoriated or losing their jobs.

The Antifa and BLM mob likely don’t have to worry about either. In the case of Antifa, the biggest threat is losing access to their Xbox or their mocha soy latte’s.

We have seen the rule of law crumble, with the police largely unable to control the mob, and with every move they make under scrutiny. Police are likely afraid to use any type of force at risk of losing their jobs, or worse being arrested.

We have seen other officers arrested in the past week or so other than Off. Rolfe in Atlanta. If police are unable or unwilling to do their jobs, it makes the job even that much more difficult.

American Thinker posits, and we agree that our country has “grown dysfunctional and largely ungovernable,” more along the lines of “civil disintegration not civil war.”

Is it too late to get our country back? We hope not.

The one thing we do know is that currently the only one standing between liberty and tyranny is President Trump, along with very few members of Congress. The Democrats clearly cannot be trusted. Neither can a large number of Republicans.

The mere fact that we have heard nary a Republican with limited exceptions defend our police against charges of systemic racism being leveled at them speaks volumes.

It is interesting that this “systemic racism” didn’t seem to be an issue during the eight years of the Obama administration, and only came about recently.

These statues that are suddenly racist and offensive were not so during the years 2008-2016. Hell, as recently as three months ago, police were being held up as heroes, along with other first responders. Now they are the enemy.

Is this the end of America as we know it? Who knows? Clearly as already stated the chances of compromise are slim and none. It has been suggested that perhaps the confederacy had the right idea, albeit not the part about slavery.

Maybe it is time to divide the country along red and blue lines. It’s often been joked about that the best thing to happen would be if the west coast of the U.S. broke off from the United States and made its way into the Pacific.

Given the status of current events, maybe that wouldn’t be a bad idea. Perhaps they could take a few more blue states with them and leave those of us who love our country, love freedom and liberty, and respect and honor our history alone. We’ve already seen how their “utopia” of CHAZ/CHOP has worked out. We’ll pass.
