Insanity: TX deputies arrest human smuggler – then ordered to release 20 illegal immigrants into the community

MILLS COUNTY, TX – According to a press release, Mills County Sheriff’s deputies pulled over an SUV that reportedly contained 21 Guatemalan nationals.

While authorities were able to arrest the driver for allegedly engaging in human smuggling, the sheriff’s department was ordered to release the 20 Guatemalan nationals into the community at the direction of the U.S. Border Patrol.

The reason the sheriff’s department had to let the illegal immigrants go free was because the U.S. Border Patrol informed them that under President Biden’s new direction on immigration, they wouldn’t be allowed to apprehend those illegal immigrants.

On April 1st, Mills County Sheriff’s deputies pulled over a 2008 GMC Yukon at approximately 4:30 p.m. on US highway 84 in Center City for an alleged traffic violation. When deputies approached the vehicle, they had reportedly observed 21 men inside of the SUV, which included the driver.

After interviewing both the driver and the large number of occupants inside of the vehicle, deputies were able to ascertain that the occupants were all from Guatemala and had entered the United states illegally.

Reportedly, only the driver had access to money and a cell phone, whereas the 20 other Guatemalan nationals were devoid of either.

Authorities identified the driver as 21-year-old Pedro Roda-Lucas who apparently admitted to smuggling the Guatemalan nationals and was going to be paid $450 per head once he arrived in the state of Georgia.

Needless to say, Lucas was arrested for smuggling of persons, which is a third-degree felony in Texas. Furthermore, all of the cash on Lucas, as well as the vehicle, were seized by authorities.

But there was still the issue associated with the 20 other Guatemalan nationals, whose only offense was being illegally present within the United states via entry without inspection.

Understandably, the sheriff’s department reached out to the U.S. Border Patrol to let them know that they had 20 Guatemalan nationals in their custody and needed someone to come pick them up.

Yet, according to the press release from the Mills County Sheriff’s Office, the U.S. Border Patrol had informed the sheriff’s office that due to President Biden’s new orders with respect to immigration enforcement that nobody from the agency was going to be taking those Guatemalan nationals into custody:

“Deputies contacted the United States Border Patrol and were advised that because President Biden’s new orders on immigration that they would not be taking them into custody. We were told to let them go if we did not have any offenses against them.”

Thankfully, according to the press release from the sheriff’s department, members of the Fellowship Baptist Church wound up tending to the Guatemalan nationals that the sheriff’s office had to essentially set free within the community.

It is instances such as these, where there was an opportunity to humanely transfer custody of 20 individuals that were illegally present in the country that was willfully disregarded because of the current administration’s confusing approach to immigration enforcement.

In other news related to immigration efforts, Law Enforcement Today recently shared a report regarding the number of illegal immigrants that managed to avoid apprehension so far in 2021.

Here’s that previous report.

During a recent appearance on Fox News Channel’s “America’s Newsroom,” Deputy Border Patrol Chief Raul Ortiz proclaimed that “way over 100,000” illegal immigrants have managed to avoid apprehension so far in 2021.

With as stretched as the agency’s resources have been due to the migrant surge at the southern border, the numbers shared aren’t terribly surprising.

Deputy Border Patrol Chief Raul Ortiz appeared on Fox News on April 5th to discuss matters related to the southern border crisis.

Among his comments provided, he noted that the agency has likely missed well over 100,000 migrants who’ve crossed into the country illegally so far in 2021:

“We have technology and we have some resources out there that give us an estimate of how many people are actually getting away from us and we continue to try and refine and have as much confidence in that statistic as we can.

“But I can tell you that, so far, it’s been way over 100,000 people that have gotten away from us this year. But the Border Patrol agents, as well as our law enforcement partners, are doing everything we can. Our resources are just stretched awfully thin right now.”

And while there’s an ongoing crisis playing out at the southern border, the designated point person to tackle the issues there – Vice President Kamala Harris – hasn’t even hopped on to Air Force 2 to see what’s going on in the region

In an editorial from Ronna McDaniel on Fox New’s website, she poked fun at the lack of action taken by President Biden’s appointed individual with respect to the southern border:

“Harris hasn’t even taken the time to hold a press conference since allegedly taking charge of the border situation. She is working harder on avoiding accountability for the crisis than she is on trying to fix it.

“It gets worse. She traveled to California – a border state – Easter weekend with no plans whatsoever to make an appearance at the border. Instead, she spent time in Los Angeles and Oakland, without scheduling public events. This comes after border state governors have openly pleaded with her to show up in person and help solve the problem.”

When one takes that into account, it’s hardly surprising to see that President Biden’s approval rating with regard to handling the situation at the southern border stands at only 44% approving

And when it relates to handling the matter of unaccompanied minors crossing the southern border, President Biden’s approval rating on handling that is only at around 25%.
