MedStar officials confirmed that the trooper was in serious condition, however he/she is expected to survive. Police told the station that one person is in custody. The Texas Rangers are investigating the incident, officials said.
In a statement to KRLD NewsRadio, the Texas Rangers said:
“At approximately 2:15 p.m., a Texas Department of Public Safety Criminal Investigations Division (CID) special agent was conducting an investigation in the Haslet area.
“During the course of the investigation, the special agent encountered a suspect at a residence in the 14,000 block of Mainstay way,” the statement read. “The suspect discharged a firearm and struck the special agent. The special agent did not return fire.”
The suspect, who was uninjured was taken into custody by authorities.
Investigators did not identify any of those involved, nor did they release what charges the suspect was facing. The area where the shooting occurred is in Denton County, located just north of the Tarrant County line.
According to a call log, Fort Worth police were called to the neighborhood at around 2:30 p.m.. The caller told police they saw a man walking with a gun in the area. All questions about the shooting were referred by the Fort Worth police to the Texas DPS.
Meanwhile about 1,400 miles away in Miami, Florida, an undercover Plantation police officer was shot during a drug enforcement sting in the parking lot of a Bass Pro Shop in Dania Beach, Florida.
CBS Miami tells us that according to a Miami DEA spokesperson, Anne-Judith Lambert, the shooting occurred during a joint operation being conducted by the DEA Miami office and the Broward County Sheriff’s Office. As officers moved in to arrest the suspect, he opened fire on police.
Here is a report from WPTV News 5:
The suspect was shot, believed to be by the injured officer. Lambert said both men were transported to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
A worker at the nearby Divers Direct store told CBS Miami that she saw someone leave the lot and said she wasn’t able to return because everything was locked down.
“It’s a crazy time,” she said. “We all need to be safe.”
A man named Mark Behrens was working nearby.
“Some people said they heard at least five or six shots,” he said.
“There were people on the dog dock with their dogs jumping off the dock,’ Behrens said. “They heard five or six shots. We were getting them out of the park at that time, and then, about five minutes later or so, we had a whole slew of cop cars going down by the Bass Pro Shops.”
WSVN-7 News reported the officer was shot in the arm, and was transported to Memorial Regional Hospital in a private vehicle.
The suspect was transported to the hospital by Broward County Sheriff’s Fire Rescue. His condition was not released, however he is also expected to survive. A second suspect was taken into custody, however, was not injured.
“Fortunately no one died. These were non-life-threatening injuries,” Lambert said.
“Both were taken to the hospital, and right now, that’s all we have. This was a cocaine investigation, and this was part of the investigation where they were going to make an arrest. They would have never put the public in danger.”
Authorities said the two men involved in the sting operation will be facing federal charges.

According to reports, the suspect who shot at the police officer was then killed by the same officer inside of the BP gas station, locate at 63rd and Prospect. The officer was rushed to a nearby hospital. As of Thursday night, March 25th, the officer was listed in stable condition.
The Missouri State Highway Patrol (MSHP) is actively investigating the shootings and said that the suspect fired his weapon first, causing the police officer to fire his duty weapon in self defense.
Authorities said that four uniformed Kansas City Police Officers, part of a special impact unit focused on violent criminals, spotted a black male with a stop order for questioning in a shooting investigation. MSHP Sgt. Andy Bell said in a statement:
“They attempted to make contact and effect an arrest inside of the gas station, a fight and struggle ensued.”
Bell added that at first it involved just two of the officers, but then all four got involved. At one point the person they were trying to stop pulled out a gun and shot one of the officers in the leg. Bell said:
“The officer in self defense returned fire, striking the suspect. The suspect has been pronounced dead deceased at this time.”
The officer returned fire striking the suspect. No other witnesses nor officers were injured. The suspect succumbed to his injuries & pronounced deceased. The @kcpolice officer is currently in stable condition. Our investigators are here & processing the scene. #MSHPDDCC pic.twitter.com/b4Tfct7D3m

However, even with the presented evidence, some community members who protested outside the crime scene are demanding to know more. Members of the Revolutionary Black Panther were at the scene before the Highway Patrol began its full investigation questioning the police shooting. Anton Washington said:
“They absolutely are not doing what is called to protect the citizens. No matter how it occurred there are other ways to make sure that this ends peacefully without having to draw your weapon.”
Kansas City Police explained that even though there was no warrant for the man’s arrest, there was probable cause.
Sgt. Jake Becchina said in a statement:
“Those kinds of things take place all the time in ongoing investigations with crimes. You develop probable cause that a person is involved in an ongoing investigation and then take them into custody and then it proceeds to the next step of getting a warrant.”

Investigators have not released the identity of the man who was shot and killed or the identity of the police officer who was shot in the leg. KCTV5 reported that people who live and shop in the area were upset to hear what happened. Ronnie J, a passerby, said:
“I saw a bunch of cars and everybody flying up and down the street.”
Dejean West, another passerby, said:
“No. It was just two human beings being shot at the BP. It doesn’t matter whether they’re a cop or a civilian or whatever. The thing is, it’s still the wild, wild, West. They act like Jesse James and Billy the Kid, running around here. It needs to stop. It just sucks. It’s sad that it has to be this way, like nobody wants to see peace. It’s chaos. It’s sad.”
