As the invasion at the southern border becomes worse by the day, the Department of Homeland Security appears to be gatekeeping information about those who have entered the United States that are on the terror watchlist.

Bill Melugin, a reporter with Fox News, has received a response to his recently filed Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request from the department. His request was for the nationalities of those that have illegally entered the United States and are on the terror watchlist.

The Department of Homeland Security, however, refused to give the information.

“The privacy interests of the individuals in the records you have requested outweigh any minimal public interest in disclosure of the information. Any private interest in you may have in the information does not factor into the aforementioned balancing test,” the denial letter read in part.

Essentially the Department of Homeland Security is saying that the right to privacy of these dangerous illegals on the terror watchlist is more important than the right of the public to know.

According to Just the News, “at least one illegal immigrant reportedly on the terror watchlist was apprehended while attempting to infiltrate the Quantico Marine Corps base in Virginia,” on the same day that the Department denied Melugin’s request.

Melugin is not backing down. On Thursday, he posted on social media in firm defense of his request and vowing to appeal the Department’s decision.

“I did not ask for any names, IDs, addresses, anything that would breach privacy, nor did I ask for any law enforcement sensitive information. I simply requested *only* the nationalities of people arrested on the list, so the public can have an understanding of where in the world they are coming from,” Melugin said.

The unsecured borders of the United States due to Biden's poor policies have led to a safety issue for the American people. In 2023 alone, at least 736 suspected or known terrorists were released into the United States after illegally crossing the border.

As of March 22, 2024, around 210 suspected or known terrorists have already been apprehended and released into the country. And for some reason even their nationalities are being kept from the American people.
