El Paso, TX – A man allegedly caught in the act of raping an 8-month-old puppy and then telling her owner he “didn’t know you had dibs on the dog” is being charged with felony bestiality.

El Paso Police Department officers arrested Chevance Smith, 24, after the owner called 911 to say he or she witnessed Smith sexually abusing the puppy named Meda.

The owner, who has not been identified, reportedly caught Smith on Oct. 3 sexually abusing the eight-month-old female boxer-pit bull puppy. The owner immediately called the police and Smith was arrested at the scene.

According to reports, the owner heard screeching sounds outside of the home. The owner went outside to investigate and discovered Smith with his boxer shorts down and his genitals exposed. The owner reported that Smith was lying on the ground next to the puppy, holding her rear end with one hand and choking her with the other.

The owner confronted Smith, who allegedly replied:

“What? I’m just hugging Meda.”

Smith allegedly offered money to Meda’s owner to stop the owner from calling the police. The owner stated Smith then said:

“I didn’t know you had dibs on the dog.”

Witnesses said that when the owner called the police, Smith became furious and attacked the owner. The witnesses held Smith at the scene until members of the El Paso Police Department’s Animal Cruelty Investigations Unit arrived, who then arrested Smith.

The owner informed officers that the puppy’s genitals were swollen and bleeding, which was corroborated by a veterinarian who examined Meda, according to a news release.

According to KVIA, the police incident report states:

“A subsequent examination by a veterinarian found the canine had suffered genital injuries and trauma consistent with the contact observed by the witness.”

Smith was booked into the El Paso County Detention Facility on a bestiality charge, a state jail felony. His bond has been set at $7,500. As per Texas law, if Smith is found guilty, he could face a jail term of between six months and two years along with a fine of up to $10,000.

The El Paso Police Department posted news of the arrest on its Facebook page,  with it garnering 772 reactions, 446 comments and 1.1K shares. Some of the reactions were full of disgust.

Some predicted his future:

“He will be somebody’s b***h in jail for sure”

“He will have plenty of that in jail. Here comes the train . . .”

Some were heartbroken over the puppy’s treatment:

“What an evil person! Poor puppy – I hope it heals from its injuries!”

Some weren’t surprised.

“Well it is Texas which is known for being a cesspool of animal torturers”

“The root to all evil is not money it is sex”

Incidents of this type are found across the country.

In 2019, Raymon McCloud, 19, was arrested for allegedly sexually abusing a pregnant dog in Virginia. McCloud was allegedly caught on camera raping the dog of his friend, Kasper Carlton.

McCloud was arrested on a Class 6 felony charge of carnal knowledge of an animal and a Class 1 misdemeanor charge of animal cruelty, according to the Gloucester County Sheriff’s Office.

Carlton said of the incident, which was caught on his surveillance camera:

“It surprised me. It scared the hell out of me. I never seen anything like that in my life.”

Reports also stated that McCloud was just 13 when Carlton saved him from a traumatic life. Carlton said McCloud was given drugs and repeatedly abused in his home as a child.

Carlton handed over the dog abuse video to Gloucester Animal Control Department. Carlton said:

“I set my whole life down and took care of somebody. I hope that what I did was correct. I just wish he would get some help.”

McCloud was reportedly arrested on charges of bestiality and animal abuse and later granted bail, paying $1,500.

Man accused of raping dog, causing it to be euthanized due to internal injuries

Feb. 17, 2019 – PORTLAND, OR – A Portland man was arrested after authorities say he admitted to raping his fiancé’s dog, which later was euthanized after the sexual assault caused internal injuries, The Oregonian reported.

Fidel Lopez, 51, told Portland police that he and the dog, a Lhasa Apso mix named Estrella, were lying in bed November 2018 while his girlfriend was out, and he got upset when she wouldn’t respond to his calls and texts, according to a probable cause affidavit. Lopez said he’d been drinking alcohol at the time and “out of anger” sexually assaulted the dog, according to the affidavit.

Lopez told police Estrella “seemed fine at the time,” the court documents said.

The affidavit also revealed the girlfriend later brought the dog to DoveLewis Emergency Animal Hospital after she heard Estrella whining while hiding under the couch. As a result, she discovered blood and injuries to the animal. She told staff that her fiancé “displayed some potential bestiality tendencies,” mentioning that he showed his genitals to dogs and bragged about watching another person sexually assault a dog.

Furthermore, the girlfriend said Lopez had asked her if she’d consider getting a larger dog than Estrella, the affidavit said.

A necropsy was performed on Estrella after she was euthanized. Consequently, traces of Lopez’s DNA were found in the dog, the affidavit said.

Lopez was held in the Multnomah County Detention Center on suspicion of first-degree aggravated animal abuse and sexual assault of an animal.

According to court documents, the fiancé told authorities that she’d be concerned for her family’s safety and the safety of her other pets if Lopez were released from jail and that he’s lied about drug and alcohol abuse.
