PHILADELPHIA – “The suspect is described as a guy wearing handcuffs.”

No, that was not an actual quote, but it could have been after a suspect escaped from custody in Philadelphia’s Summerdale neighborhood. Fortunately, he was re-captured.

It all began around 5 a.m. Friday near Roosevelt Boulevard and Summerdale Avenue, reported WPVI ABC Action News 6. Police responded to a report of an erratic driver on Roosevelt Boulevard.

After being stopped, the unpredictable motorist reportedly rammed another vehicle in addition to a police unit. Officers made the arrest and placed the suspect in a squad car.

While officers continued their investigation, the report indicates the suspect kicked his way out of the police cruiser and made his escape on foot, handcuffs and all.

According to police, the suspect was in custody for previous arrest warrants that had been issued.

The incident shut down all southbound lanes of Roosevelt Boulevard at Summerdale Avenue.

Video from Chopper 6 HD showed a traffic backup extending for miles. The unnamed suspect was re-captured and transported for booking about 9:30 a.m. Friday morning. Details regarding the search were not provided.
