FRONTON, Texas – Apparently a gun battle on the Mexican side of the Rio Grande victimized a Texas state trooper by striking him with a stray round.
Lt. Johnny Hernandez of the Texas Department of Public Safety said one of their troopers suffered a gunshot wound to the leg. He was hit about 1 p.m. Friday while on foot with the Border Patrol in Fronton, about 105 upstream from Brownsville reported ABC News.
U.S. Customs and Border Protection issued a statement saying a federal agent also was hit, but protected by body armor.
The trooper, whose identity hasn’t been released, was in stable condition at a hospital in McAllen.
Hernandez says it’s unclear who was involved in the gunfight.
