Sleep well, America: “Infrastructure” bill allocates $250 million to destroy wild parsnips, bulbous bluegrass from American landscape

WASHINGTON, DC- It’s all about “infrastructure,” right? Collapsing bridges, killer potholes, “racist” highways…all of that. This legislation…totaling well over $1 trillion is a matter of life and death, correct? Well if you’re a wild parsnip, rattail fescue or bulbous bluegrass, it is a matter of life and death.

Such is one “vital” infrastructure issue included in the most recent Congressional waste of taxpayer money, to the tune of $250 million dollars.

Now, when you’re talking over $1 trillion, $250 million is a paltry sum, a virtual speck of sand in a desert. However when you’re an American taxpayer who has been fed a load of BS about the so-called “infrastructure” bill, you have the right to question such a ridiculous pissing away of taxpayer money.

 That sum of money is directed for the removal of so-called “invasive” plants along the highways and byways of the United States buried deep within the multi-thousand page “Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act.”

The “Invasive Plant Elimination Program” will designate $50 million per year over the next five years to eradicate those rascally invasive killer wild parsnips.

Under Section 11522 of the Act, invasive plants have been defined as “a non-native plant, tree, grass or weed species.”

Among plants and species targeted to be removed are, “at a minimum cheatgrass [appropriate for Democrats], Ventenata dubia, medusahead, bulbous bluegrass, Japanese brome, rattail fescue, Japanese honeysuckle [this whole thing is starting to sound anti-Asian], phragmites, autumn olive, Bradford pear, wild parsnip, sericea lespedeza, spotted knapweed, garlic mustard, and palmer amaranth.”

The legislation directs that such invasive species be removed from roads, highways, railroads, and other transportation routes.

 The program will be run via a series of grants given to states to “eliminate or control existing invasive plants or prevent introduction of or encroachment by new invasive plants along and in areas adjacent to transportation corridor rights-of-way.”

The bill provides that mowing along roadways may be funded “if mowing is identified as the best means of treatment according to best management practices or mowing is used in conjunction with another treatment.” In other words, that appears to be “secret code” for more government workers, aka more union members.

Oh, and the “bee lobby” (if there is one) also scored, with $10 million over the next five years also reserved for planting native plants and wildflowers which are “pollinator-friendly” on “roadsides and highways.”

When old sleepy Joe woke up from his afternoon nap to sign the bill, he said:

“My message to the American people is this: America is moving again, and your life is going to change for the better.”

Yeah, thank God we’re losing the wild parsnips and bulbous bluegrass. We were really starting to lose sleep over that while our gas prices nearly doubled and our Thanksgiving meal went up over 15% from last year. Priorities…thanks, Congress.

BEIJING- While the American Marxist contingent of the American population is excited about the $1.2 trillion “infrastructure” bill passed by the House this past week, that pales in comparison to the excitement being expressed by the Chinese communists, who see it as an opportunity to seize on American weakness in the manufacturing sector, Breitbart reports.

According to the Chinese Communist Party’s state-run Global Times, they are thrilled by the passing of the bill, with the knowledge that the U.S. will likely realize it no longer has the manufacturing capacity to build the massive infrastructure projects without China’s help.

According to the Times, they believe it is an “awkward reality” that America’s dilapidated manufacturing sector no longer has the ability to support what Democrats call a “once-in-a-generation” infrastructure plan, and believe that will force Biden and his gang of miscreants to turn to China, the only country where “large amounts of industrial goods under such a grand infrastructure program” may be found.

Of course, it would be helpful to “follow the money” especially where it concerns not only the Biden family but other members of the administration, “climate czar” John Kerry in particular.

The Times then explained that the spending spree Congress passed will end up increasing the U.S. trade deficit with the Chicoms, gut import/export restrictions that were put in place to protect our country’s national security, and put a nail in the coffin of America’s hope to rebuild its industrial base:

In 2020, China’s infrastructure-related exports to the US totaled about $295 billion, accounting for about 63 percent of its total exports to the US, according to a research report by China International Capital Corp. Therefore, the expansion of US infrastructure investment will inevitably lead to the increased imports from China.

This outcome will only increase US’ trade deficit with China. China’s trade surplus with the US reached $40.5 billion in October, showed customs data on Sunday. While the figure was down from the monthly high of $42 billion recorded in September, it remains on a relatively high level despite the US’ attempt to narrow its trade deficit.

While US politicians repeatedly claim the government needs to reduce trade deficit by cracking down on the so-called unfair, non-market trade practices, it is the massive demand in the US for foreign good that contributes to its trade deficit.

“With the passage of the $1.2 trillion infrastructure bill, the urgency for the U.S. to lift its tech export restrictions against China will increase,” the Global Times predicted.

By so doing, the United States would then be forced, the Times said, to “assume its proper role as a supplier of computer chips and other high-tech components to China’s industrial sector.

The Global Times is having a good time mocking the United States, as another editorial in the paper—published on the same day the Times applauded the passing of the infrastructure bill—mocking the so-called “big spenders” in the House for their “feeble imitation” of China’s central planning infrastructure projects:

The bill will by no means solve all the US’ problems and give the country enough vitality to compete with China in the sphere of large-scale infrastructure projects. Most of US major infrastructure construction was driven by the private sector. Now the Biden administration is trying to take that over with an American-style “planned economy.”

This is a move trying to reengineer the dynamics of the US economy, using its weak spots to back one of the country’s most daunting tasks. Thus, the chances that the plan will be effectively implemented are slim by any means.

Some US infrastructure is outdated in comparison with China’s. In fact, the two cannot really be compared. Most of China’s infrastructure was built relatively recently, so it is normal that such projects are more advanced. China has a large population, which determines a higher use rate of infrastructure.

So a boost in infrastructure can being a relatively high return. For example, China’s national conditions make the country a fertile ground for the rapid development of high-speed rail, and expressways are needed in most parts of China. The cost of such infrastructure is high, but it is justified by the needs of large local populations.

The Global Times further mocked the so-called “U.S. political elites,” claiming they are “lost in their pride and arrogance” because China has surpassed the United States as the dominant industrial superpower in the world, far more advanced at building infrastructure such as roads, bridges, railways, and other elements.

The editorial board at the paper also took great pleasure in the current supply chain “port logjam” and for the U.S. paying people not to work through coronavirus subsidies.

“The U.S. has its advantages, but if it wants to be as competitive as China in some spheres, it should turn American people into people who are as diligent as Chinese and turn American officials into being as responsible and hard-working as their Chinese peers,” the Global Times continued.

They made no mention of using proper pronouns or other woke ideology. Maybe that’s whey they’re cleaning our clock.

BEIJING, CHINA- Sleep well, America. While China is actively testing hypersonic missiles capable of carrying nuclear warheads, the American military leadership is examining so-called “white rage” and engaging in woke ideological indoctrination of military members in critical race theory and sexual deviance. Meanwhile, our nuclear capability utilizes primarily 40-year-old technology.

 

 

The New York Post reports that in August, the Chinese Communist regime tested a hypersonic missile which actually circled the globe prior to seeking out its target, citing a report in the Financial Times.

Five people familiar with the testing explained how this was accomplished, saying “the Chinese military launched a rocket that carried a hypersonic glide vehicle which flew through low-orbit space” prior to acquiring and heading toward its intended target.

Three people briefed on the intelligence say the missile missed its target by approximately 24 miles. However despite that, the test shows that China’s capability using hypersonic weapons is much more advanced than officials in the United States realized.

Some wonder how this was missed by United States intelligence and to what extent they have underestimated Chinese military advancement and modernization.

“We have no idea how they did this,” one official said.

The Post said that the U.S. and Russia, as well as China have been working on hypersonic weapons, with Russia having tested one such missile in July.

The United States, when it isn’t indoctrinating military members, plans on outfitting Navy destroyers with such missiles, which are capable of traveling five times faster than the speed of sound.

While that is somewhat slower than existing ballistic missiles, the difference is hypersonic missiles are capable of being controlled after launch, thus making it easier to circumvent defense systems.

The Pentagon refused to comment specifically on the Financial Times report.

“We have made clear our concerns about the military capabilities China continues to pursue, capabilities that only increase tensions in the region and beyond,” said feckless Defense Department spokesman John Kirby to the Times. “That is one reason why we hold China as our number one pacing challenge.”

According to Taylor Fravel, an expert on Chinese nuclear weapons policy, who was unaware of the August test, noted a such a weapon utilizing a hypersonic glide vehicle could in fact “negate” US missile defense systems, designed to target and destroy incoming ballistic missiles.

“Hypersonic glide vehicles…fly at lower trajectories and can maneuver in flight, which makes them hard to track and destroy,” said Fravel, a professor at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

The Times of Israel noted that standard ballistic missiles fly higher up into space in an arc to reach their target, however hypersonic missiles fly in a lower trajectory in the atmosphere, which would potentially allow them to reach their target quicker.

He also said it would prove “destabilizing” if China was able to fully develop and deploy such a weapon. He noted that despite the fact Beijing had assessed the weapon, it didn’t necessarily indicate they would deploy the capability.

All of this comes about as tensions between the United States and China have risen relative to Chinese saber rattling with Taiwan.

Michael Gallagher, minority member of the House Armed Services Committee, said the test by China should “serve as a call to action.”

“The People’s Liberation Army now has an increasingly credible capability to undermine our missile defenses and threaten the American homeland with both conventional and nuclear strikes,” said Gallagher. “Even more disturbing is the fact that American technology has contributed to the PLA’s hypersonic missile program.”

China, which is not currently bound by any type of arms-control deal and which appears unwilling to do so has begun posing a more significant threat to the free world.

Fears increased over the past few months, with US military officials warning about China’s growing nuclear capability. These fears increased after satellite imagery showed China was constructing over 200 intercontinental missile silos.

While currently US missile defense systems are focused on threats coming over the North Pole, two people familiar with the Chinese program said that country’s weapon could in theory fly over the South Pole.

According to Hu Xijin of Global Times, a Chinese state-run media outlet, he tweeted China was improving it’s nuclear deterrence “to ensure that the US abandons the idea of nuclear blackmail against China.”

Although the Chinese military declined to specifically comment on the test, Liu Pengyu, a spokesperson said China has always pursued a military policy that was “defensive in nature,” and said their military development wasn’t directed toward any specific country.

“We don’t have a global strategy and plans of military operations like the US does. And we are not at all interested in having an arms race with other countries,’ Liu said.

“In contrast, the US has in recent years been fabricating excuses like ‘the China threat’ to justify its arms expansions and development of hypersonic weapons. This has directly intensified arms race in this category and severely undermined global strategic stability.”

While China typically is transparent about launching what are called “Long March” rockets—the type used to launch the hypersonic glide vehicle into orbit—but conspicuously concealed the August launch.

Financial Times said that the China Academy of Launch Vehicle Technology announced on July 19 on an official social media account that it had launched a Long March 2C rocket, adding that was the 77th launch of that rocket. The next month, on August 24th they noted the 79th flight. Conspicuously missing was an announcement of the 78th launch, raising speculation of a secret launch.

In July, Law Enforcement Today reported on a watchdog report showing the United States Navy was more concerned with pushing woke ideology than preparing itself for future conflict. In case you missed it, here’s that story:

WASHINGTON, DC- While US Chief of Naval Operations Michael Gilday concerns himself with touting Marxist ideology in the form of critical race theory, a new watchdog report paints a disturbing picture of the readiness of what (at least at one time) was the most powerful naval force in the world.

The Washington Free Beacon reports that a number of sailors, speaking anonymously complained that vital training time is being wasted on (the above) identity politics and insufficient Congressional funding.

For example, Congress, now under Democrat control as well as the Biden administration has sharply cut shipbuilding and weapons procurement in the 2022 defense budget, which will be a setback to Trump administration plans to build toward a 350 to 500 ship US Navy.

The whistleblowers told investigators that the Navy’s operations are “increasingly toxic and narrowly focused on office politics,” the Beacon reported, while ignoring the increasing threat from communist China. The respondents complained that diversity trainings and other non-combat-related activities take up significant portions of the workday which they say should otherwise be spent on combat readiness.

“Sometimes I think we care more about whether we have enough diversity officers than if we’ll survive a fight with the Chinese Navy,” said one unnamed active lieutenant cited in the report.

Moreover, this complaint came from a black woman.

“It’s criminal. They think my only value is as a black woman. But you cut our ship open with a missile and we’ll all bleed the same color” she said.

According to The Western Journal, the report was commissioned by Republican members of Congress and was released earlier this week.

The report, titled “The Fighting Culture of the United States Surface Fleet” was prepared by two retired members of the Navy, Marine Lt. Gen. Robert Schmidle and Rear Adm. Mark Montgomery.

The report discovered readiness skills in the fleet have degraded due to an “obsessive focus” on diversity as well as thin resources.

Sen. Tom Cotton (R-AR), and Reps. Jim Banks (R-IN), Dan Crenshaw (R-TX) and Mike Gallagher (R-WI) commissioned the report. All four members served in the armed forces.

The four commissioned the report after several high-profile issues came about regarding the Navy’s surface fleet, which included an incident five years ago when two small amphibious craft were temporarily surrendered to Iran in the Persian Gulf.

There was also the issue of ship collisions in the South China Sea and off the coast of Japan in 2017, as well as a 2020 fire aboard the USS Bonhomme Richard, a light amphibious carrier that was moored at the US Naval Base in San Diego. That fire led to the ship being scuttled.

The report was the result of some 77 interview with both current and former officers in the Navy. There were a number of aspects of the Navy’s culture which was slammed, however the rise of “wokeness” was one of the most glaring. Ironically, that culture was in place prior to Biden taking office in January.

One recently retired leader summed it up, saying, “I guarantee you, every unit in the Navy is up to speed on their diversity training. I’m sorry that I can’t say the same of their ship handling training.”

Many of those responding complained about such “nonessential training.”

“While programs to encourage diversity, human sex trafficking, suicide prevention, sexual assault prevention, and others are appropriate, they come with a cost,” it states.

“The non-combat curricula consume Navy resources, clog inboxes, create administrative quagmires, and monopolize precious training time. By weighing down sailors with non-combat related training and administrative burdens, both Congress and Navy leaders risk sending them into battle less prepared and less focused than their opponents.

“Sailors increasingly see administrative and non-combat related training as the mission, rather than mission itself.”  

Montgomery told the Beacon that the Navy should be more focused on matching the Chinese navy’s expansion plans. He contrasted the Navy’s current priorities with his own experience during the Cold War.

“The surface warfare community definitely suffers from the lack of investment,” he said. “A large position of the respondents to this think there wasn’t the commitment to warfighting that one would expect from a Navy that can now see a potential adversary on the horizon.”

A spokeswoman for the Department of the Navy, Patricia Kreuzberger told the Free Beacon the branch “welcomes” many of the report’s findings.

“We look forward to continuing our work with Congress to ensure we have the most capable ships crewed by the most capable Sailors, as well as a surface force that is fit for the challenges of the 21st century,” Kreuzberger said.

Meanwhile, Brent Sadler, a former surface warfare officer and a fellow at the Heritage Foundation, said the onslaught of politics within the ranks of the Navy should encourage senior officers to be more detailed when discussing racial and cultural issues.

“When it comes to actual racism and discrimination in the Navy, they need to speak with facts,” Sadler said. “The flag officers need to base their response and prioritization on facts when these political and social issues come into the Navy.”

The Western Journal quoted another captain in the report, a former destroyer commander who said, “where someone puts their time shows what their priorities are.”

“And we’ve got so many messages about X, Y, Z appreciation month or sexual assault prevention, or you name it…we don’t even have close to that same level of emphasis on actual warfighting.”

That lack of warfighting focus is one of the more worrisome findings of the paper.

“There’s no curriculum,” said one former active-duty officer, now in the reserve.

“We’ll spend hours and hours on drill weekends or other areas talking about like, ‘OK, what’s the checklist you have in place? Do you have all your right uniforms?’ but there is no training like, ‘what is the current situation in China?’

“What are the things the Chinese are concerned about? What are the things the Iranians are concerned about? [The] Intel folks know that, but like, there’s no general education about, ‘What are the wars we could fight, and how do we understand the context of these, so we get in combat.’

“We can have both the cultural and political understanding as well as the warfighting implications. And to me, if we’re focused on the front-line warfighting, we should know the worst we’re going into and what the greater context is. There’s none of that right now.”

One observation, however appeared to be the most worrisome.

“I don’t think that the [surface community] see themselves as people who are engaged in a fight,” said a junior active-duty surface warfare officer.

Other areas that were criticized include micromanagement and a “bureaucratic, risk-averse culture,” as well as the Navy’s maintenance program; Navy commanders were also seen as being too focused on avoiding bad publicity in the media.

The conclusions of the report were damning.

“With China putting dozens of fighting warships in the water on an annual basis, the lack of proper focus on warfighting was of deep concern to many interviewees,” the report states.

“I’ve never heard anyone in any [congressional] testimony that I can think of that talks about actually winning,” said a career surface warfare officer in the report. “And so that’s not to absolve the Navy of its responsibility, but it’s just stunning to me.”

After the report was released, Sen. Tom Cotton expressed concern over the findings, issuing a statement on Monday:

“The findings of this report are very concerning. Our sailors are too often deprived of the training and leadership they need to fight and win at sea,” Cotton wrote.

“A navy that puts lethality, warfighting, and operational excellence at the heart of its culture is absolutely essential to our national security. America counts on the Navy to keep us safe and keep our seas open.”

Rep. Crenshaw, a former Navy SEAL who lost one eye in combat in Afghanistan echoed Cotton’s statement.

“A strong Navy is critical to our national security interests around the world,” Crenshaw said in the release. “The findings clearly indicate that our sailors are not receiving the training they need to perform the essential functions of the Navy: To find and sink enemy fleets and ensure freedom of navigation.”

The report runs counter to the narrative being put forth by Gilday and the Biden administration, who claim that diversity training and critical race theory, which is a Marxist ideology, somehow strengthens the service while claiming no readiness has been lost by the military’s recent focus on wokeness.

Perhaps the most chilling part of the report was the final line.

“Unless changes are made, the Navy risks losing the next major conflict.”

If that happens, we all lose. But hey, at least the Navy will be diverse. That will impress the Chinese.
