A 74-year-old California man was publicly berated in a Starbucks this week when a woman inside the coffee shop became upset that he was wearing a ‘Make America Great Again’ hat.
According to a report by Fox News, the woman took to writing a lengthy Facebook post encouraging people to ‘please confront him.’ During the exchange, the man identified only as ‘Victor’ was publicly ridiculed for his MAGA hat, being called a racist in front of other patrons.

“This woman came over and not only started screaming at me, she turned to the Starbucks audience and said, ‘Hey, everybody come here! This guy’s a racist! This guy hates brown people!’” Victor said in an interview following the incident.
“I yelled at him. Called the entire Starbucks to order and yelled at him more about how it’s not okay to hate brown people…I called him more names and told him to call the police…He wouldn’t call the police so I called him a wimp, He got his stuff together to leave. I followed him to the register while he complained about me,” said the post from Mankey’s Facebook. “Then chased him out of Starbucks yelling at him to get the f— out of my town.” Her page has since been deactivated.
Reports have come in this morning that Mankey was fired from her job after the incident circulated through the media.
Ahhh, sweet justice.
Over the last few months, a number of Americans have been assaulted, attacked, and taunted for the infamous red hat.
A security officer had the tires of his SUV slashed by an 18-year-old outside of a mall, simply because he had a ‘Make America Great Again’ hat displayed on his center console.
A young man was verbally and physically assaulted during a meal by a woman who turned out to be in the country illegally.
An 81-year-old man in a grocery store was physically assaulted for donning the triggering cap.
Since when is it okay to approach complete strangers and go after them simply because they might have differing views? Let’s be honest, we’ve always had division within our country. During the holidays you didn’t talk about politics with family members. But everyone was able to gather together without killing each other… at least for the most part. We’ve all been to our fair share of holiday domestics…
But now we see Americans inciting hate and pushing for others to do so, using whatever outlet they have… (enter: social media). We have people who feel so emboldened by their own opinion that they quickly rush to judgment about a particular situation or particular person because they don’t like the way they look.
Wait… hold on… isn’t that what so many people are upset about?
Don’t protestors and those who feel like they’re ‘battling’ for social justice want to spread love, acceptance, and remove judgment? Are they not the very ones who cry ‘Don’t make assumptions about me!’ and ‘No one should be judged for their appearance!’…
So why are police officers targeted because of their appearance? How is it fair for someone to assume they know everything about that person because of an identifying trait? Why is a man with a beard and a truck suddenly a bad person? How is a person wearing a red hat enough to trigger a public meltdown or incite violence?
We’re allowed to have opinions. We all do. But somewhere along the line we forgot that it’s not okay to physically attack another person because of those opinions.
It’s sad that we constantly have to remind people to stop acting like children and use their words when they have a problem. Did we all of a sudden get transported back to kindergarten where Johnny and Susie have to go to time out because they couldn’t treat each other with a little respect?
It’s time we back up. It’s time to bring back the Golden Rule. The one everyone seemed to have forgotten.
Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.
And so Ms. Mankey, even if you thought you were completely justified in this situation… would it still make it right?
If the roles were reversed, how would you handle it?
Time to wake up, America.
