Sheriff: 14-year-old boy killed his entire family, including baby brother

ELKMONT, Ala. – Officials say that a 14-year-old boy confessed to killing his entire family after he called 911 and reported that he had heard gunshots on Tuesday morning.

AP News reported that when police arrived at the teenage boy’s residence in Elkmont early Tuesday, they discovered one adult and two minors dead in the home. Another adult and minor were rushed to the hospital for severe gunshot wounds but didn’t survive their injuries.

All five of the victims were members of the boy’s family, including his stepmother. The gruesome crime claimed the life of everyone from his 38-year-old father to his 6-month-old sibling.

Police say that the incident occurred around 10:30 p.m. on Monday night. The juvenile suspect allegedly called the Limestone County Sheriff’s Office shortly after and reported that he was in the basement and had heard gunshots being fired upstairs.

After transporting the two injured victims to the hospital in an attempt to save their lives, police began thoroughly investigating the details of the shooting.

WAFF reported that around 3 a.m. Tuesday morning, Sheriff Mike Blakely arrived at the scene to tell the investigators that the two remaining victims had died and that the 14-year-old boy had admitted to killing them. He said that detectives had uncovered enough consistencies in his story and when confronted, confessed to the crime.

Deputies at the scene recovered the gun that was used in the murders thrown off to the side of a nearby road. They say that the gun was illegally owned.

The young suspect’s name has been withheld from being released to the public due to his age.

“Our heartfelt condolences are extended to the family, the school, the whole community. It’s just unimaginable,” a nearby neighbor said.

The young boy was a student at Elkmont High School. The school posted to Facebook asking for prayers and acknowledging that they would have extra support available for students.

Please be in prayer for our school and community. We will have extra counselors at school today.
