Sergeant Michael T. May of the Monongalia (West Virginia) Sheriff’s office was killed early this morning when a suspect in a high-speed pursuit plowed into his vehicle and caused the Sgt. to crash on Interstate 79.  He was transported to Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown, West Virginia where he passed away a short time later.

Police in Granville, Pennsylvania stopped a suspect in a vehicle who was wanted in an earlier hit and run accident.  The suspect declined to exit the car and drove away with police in pursuit. Sgt. May was asked to provide back up under mutual aid as officers chased the suspect along the West Virginia/Pennsylvania border.   The driver, Jerod Green, has been arrested and charged with homicide.  The results of his blood alcohol count are not yet available.

Sgt. May had served with his agency for 10 years. He was 41.  Rest in peace, brother. You are gone, but never forgotten. LET offers its condolences to the men and women of the Monongalia Sheriff’s office.
