Sen. John Kennedy calls gun-controlled Chicago ‘world’s largest outdoor shooting range’

During a recent appearance on Fox News Channel’s “Hannity,” republican Senator John Kennedy had shared his take on a speech delivered by President Joe Biden regarding gun violence.

Aside from noting that the president’s speech was a little confusing, Senator Kennedy brought up the topic of Chicago while describing it as the “world’s largest outdoor shooting range.”

For those not familiar with Senator Kennedy, he’s managed to gain a reputation in Washington D.C. as the senator that crafts a punchline out of his instances of delivered criticisms.

While appearing on the June 23rd broadcast of “Hannity,” Senator Kennedy commented on the speech given by President Joe Biden earlier that same day while interweaving his unique blend of humor when discussing complex and serious topics:

“Well, Sean, I listened to the president’s press conference today, and there were times when I was confused. Let me speak to the substance, though. I don’t hate anyone, but whoever is advising the president on crime, and I don’t know who it is, but whoever it is — his Secret Service name ought to be ‘butthead.’”

The republican senator delivered criticism over what President Biden believed to be the cause of rising crime, with President Biden alleging that inefficient background checks are somehow to blame:

“I mean, why has Chicago become the world’s largest outdoor shooting range? Why is it safer to walk down the streets of Mogadishu than New York City? Crime is not up, as the president seemed to indicate today, because of inadequate background checks. Crime is up because many, not all, but many members of the president’s own party believe in defunding the police.”

Senator Kennedy pointed to the fact that police have been defunded in various cities, which those same cities are seeing increases in certain types of crime:

“They ran on it. And in many cities, they’ve done it. Crime is up because many members of the president’s own party want to turn cops into social workers. Crime is up because many members of the president’s own party think all cops are racists, including apparently the African American police officers.”

Pointing out what he sees as a form of hypocrisy, Senator Kennedy noted how the narrative seems to shift on whether guns are to blame or not when it relates to either a criminal using a firearm or there’s an officer-involved shooting:

“Crime is up because many members of the president’s own party think that when a cop shoots a criminal, it’s always the cop’s fault. But when a criminal shoots a cop, it is always the gun’s fault.”

Back in May, Law Enforcement Today shared a report of a recent NRA video where Senator John Kennedy appeared, where the republican senator said that while “love is the answer” one should “own a handgun just in case.”

Here’s that previous report from May.

_

WASHINGTON, DC – Republican Sen. John Kennedy appeared in a video posted by the National Rifle Association stressing the importance of love but also the importance of being armed “just in case.”

The Louisiana Senator and longtime supporter of Second Amendment rights said during the NRA Instagram ad:

“I believe that love is the answer, but you ought to own a handgun just in case.”

As he made the statement, he is show cleaning a revolver with a rag. As the Senator speaks, his words are displayed across the screen.

His mild demeanor and grandfather-like voice gives the ad the feel of a family member speaking to you, something the NRA is clearly trying to capitalize on.

Kennedy has been a vocal supporter of gun rights, and has opposed attempts to create stricter gun laws. Reacting to a mass shooting in Boulder, Colorado earlier this year, the Senator opposed calls by President Biden for gun-control measures.

On March 22, 21-year-old Ahmad Al Aliwi Al-Issa opened fire at a King Soopers supermarket in Boulder. The gunman killed ten people, including a local police officer.

Following the shooting, President Biden urged Congress to act on gun-control measures shortly after the attack, saying “it will save lives, American lives.”

Kennedy responded saying:

“I don’t believe we have a gun control problem in America, I believe we have an idiot control problem.”

The Republican Senator compared those that commit crimes with guns to drunk drivers:

“I’m not trying to perfectly equate these two but, we have a lot of drunk drivers in America that kill a lot of people.

“We ought to try to combat that, too. But I think what many folks on my side of the aisle are saying is that the answer is not to get rid of all sober drivers.”

While the NRA tried to use the ad to forward their pro-gun rights stand, a small typo in the video has become a source of distraction for the anti-gun community.

While the Senator speaks and cleans the revolver, text across the screen was supposed to say “believe.” However, and obvious typographical error displayed “belive” instead.

The spelling mistake caused a barrage of commenters to make jokes under the video.

A poster responding to the video on Twitter wrote:

“The irony that they advocate for English as the ‘official language’ yet they, as grown adults, can’t grasp grammar and spelling.”

Another wrote:

“Honest to god, folks, they could’ve misspelled every word in this ad but don’t let it distract you from the fact that they are promoting domestic violence.”

Rather than debate the pros and cons of gun control, another liberal chose to make comments about the error:

“Y’all (sick) can’t even spell Believe correctly, let’s work on that before we continue celebrating Americans gun addiction and addiction to violence.”

Report: NRA memberships have skyrocketed since Biden was inaugurated as threats against Second Amendment grow

March 29, 2021

A recent report coming from Breitbart News claims that NRA memberships have been on the rise since President Joe Biden assumed office in January.

This increase in memberships for the organizations has some believing that it’s partially inspired by the current administration’s stance on firearm ownership.

According to Breitbart News, the NRA’s Andrew Arulanandam told the publication on March 28th that the civil rights group has been “gaining 1,000 new members a day since January, from online signups alone.”

When asked whether there was anything in particular that was leading to the rise in membership, he cited the Democrats’ never-ending drive for gun control as being a likely factor in the equation:

“Gun owners realize the threat our Second Amendment and our self-defense laws are facing with a hostile President and Congress.”

According to a new Rasmussen Reports poll, 51% of likely voters agree that tighter gun control would likely not have stopped the March 22nd shooting in Boulder, Colorado.

The overwhelming majority of likely voters, 64%, stated unequivocally that there is no way to “completely prevent” attacks like the one in Boulder earlier in March or the one in the Atlanta area that occurred prior to it.

Law Enforcement Today recently reported  that in light of the tragedy that occurred in Boulder earlier in March, President Biden made an address where he urged his colleagues in Washington to enact legislation regarding firearms:

“I don’t need to wait another minute, let alone an hour, to take common-sense steps that will save lives in the future, and to urge my colleagues in the House and Senate to act.

“We can ban assault weapons and high-capacity magazines in this country once again. I got that done when I was a senator. It passed. It was the law for the longest time. And it brought down these mass killings. We should do it again.”

President Biden also used the same press conference to discuss the need to close the “Charleston loophole.”

In an unlikely twist in the investigation into the March 22nd mass shooting in Boulder, it was later discovered that the suspected perpetrator’s weapon was classified as a pistol rather than a rifle.

However, that discovery hasn’t calmed the discussions regarding getting new iterations gun control implemented via the current administration.

Reportedly, President Biden plans to sign executive orders strengthening gun control, according to comments coming from White House press secretary Jen Psaki on March 26th.
