WARREN, Ohio – Police and school administrators are fighting over parking in Warren City Schools. The dispute is over the no parking zone between two handicapped parking spaces, reported WCMH-TV.
At Jefferson K-8 School in Warren, parking spots closest to the door fill up quickly.
As a result, the city police union said one handicapped parking zone, in particular, has created a problem.
Illegal parking has been a predicament at Jefferson School for a significant period of time. Finally, city police believe enough warnings had been issued, so they took action.
Officer Adam Chinchik said he saw a car parking repeatedly in a handicapped zone. Hence, he discovered the automobile belonged to none other than the school principal.
Police union representative Michael Stabile said after warnings, Chinchik wrote a ticket.
As a result, that’s when problems began.
“A citation was issued to the vehicle for the handicapped parking violation. Within one hour, the superintendent had ordered two administrators to go to Jefferson and escort the SRO off the property,” said Michael Stabile, with the Warren police union.
Consequently, that left the school without a police officer on campus during the day.
“The union and the police administration, we’re still in conversation as to how we’re going to proceed forward to get a school resource officer in that school,” Stabile said.
A school spokesperson said the district employee moved the vehicle when asked.
Stabile said Chinchik may return as a school officer at another building.
“At this point, he doesn’t want to go back to that school because of how the situation unfolded.”

The Warren City School District has worked diligently over the past several years with the City of Warren to create and develop an effective School Resource Officer Program. Our students, families and staff have received many benefits from this relationship and we look forward to continuing this partnership in the future.
