Active shootings are becoming a more frequent occurrence and yet the response to each event is becoming more and more idiotic.
We hear calls from authors to “buy my book and save your life” and politicians call to “ban these guns”. True life-saving action is being ignored due to the fact it doesn’t fit the right political agenda.
Checkpoints and heightened security are great… until someone decides to circumvent it, like the shooter did last night, cutting a hole in a fence to avoid security measures.
Large campuses and parks are very difficult to close off completely, especially given that you must get every aspect 100 percent right while the perpetrator only needs to find one weak point. Restrictions on magazine size will only mean that a determined criminal needs to bring more magazines and will have to have more frequent practice for reloading in order to close the timing gap.
Profiling is something our soft and frequently offended society will not tolerate, even though profiling is legal in the federal system and is developed through statistics and facts. The call for gun grabs only takes away legal guns from good people who are in no violation of the law.
The common denominator here is guns and the fact that they kill. They kill innocent people… and then they kill those who take innocent lives. Within moments of getting to the scene, police were able to take down the shooter at the Gilroy Garlic Festival in California.
Multiple deaths and many more injuries in just a few minutes. Imagine if that crowd was filled with legally licensed and properly trained citizens who were carrying a firearm. Statistics prove that active shooters continue to stop their actions when confronted because they either take their own life or are shot by someone else. Imagine if we didn’t have to wait for that someone else to get there.
Did you know that Law Enforcement Today has a private new home for those who support emergency responders and veterans? It’s called LET Unity, and it’s where we share the untold stories of those patriotic Americans. Every penny gets reinvested into giving these heroes a voice. Check it out today.
The world is a violent place. It was violent when the cavemen ruled it and will continue to be that way long after we’re gone.
You can’t negotiate violence, insanity and crime; there is no bartering for peace and security. These goals can only be achieved with boots on the ground by individuals willing to take the chance of losing it all for the benifit of others.
From military to the police, we task these men and women to do awful things to awful people to keep the rest of us safe. Perhaps it is time we allow those who want to defend themselves and those around them the opportunity to do so.
If it takes a village to raise a child, then it takes a nation to defend itself.
