SALT LAKE CITY, UT — U.S. Representative-elect Burgess Owens (R-UT), a former Super Bowl champion who flipped Utah’s 4th Congressional District for Republicans, has called Antifa and Black Lives Matter “terrorist groups” who have hurt the black community.

Owens, an African American whose great-great-grandfather was a slave, said he does not support groups that participate in violent protests, and compared Antifa and Black Lives Matter to the Ku Klux Klan:
“Whether it be Antifa, a terrorist group, whether it be BLM, a terrorist group, I tell you one thing they have in common with the KKK: They’re cowards and bullies.
“They hide their faces. They go out every single night. They do it in gangs. Their goal is to destroy things, to intimidate people, to hurt people, and to do all the things that are totally against the American way.”
During an interview with Fox News, Owens called out Democratic Party leaders, saying the left wanted people divided:
“These guys live the life of luxury. The NAACP, the Black Caucus [and] Barack Obama. Many of them millionaires and then telling the rest of us how this country doesn’t work.”

Owens said that he has joined the “Freedom Force,” a group of incoming Republican congresspeople intent on countering the “radical agenda” of the Democratic Party. The group has stated that one of its main goals is to become the alternative to the “Squad” — a group of progressive congresswomen of color including Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Ilhan Omar.
The “Freedom Force” includes New York’s Nicole Malliotakis; Michelle Steel of California; Stephanie Bice of Oklahoma; Victoria Spartz of Indiana; and Carlos Giménez, Maria Elvira Salazar and Byron Donalds of Florida.
Owens told Laura Ingraham during the Fox News interview:
“We love our nation. This group will be talking against and giving a contrast to the hard left. We have the Freedom Force versus Squad; we have a group of people who believe in our country, believe in God, family, respect for women and authority, and another group who hates everything I just mentioned.”
During an August interview with Fox News host Martha MacCallum, Owens expressed his view of the divide between party lines:
“We are at a very clear crossroads in our country. We have one vision that says we, the people, are empowered by education, and we will give that power to the people and the other side is they want to empower themselves by stealing our education, stealing our history.
“Which should not be a surprise, and for those who can go to Google, you’ll find out that BLM inc. is nothing but a Marxist organization.
“They hate God, they hate the family unit, the nuclear family, and they hate capitalism, so of course they are going to feel this way.”

Upon announcing his run for Congress, Owens said that the biggest enemy of the black race is not white supremacy:
“The biggest enemy to my race has not been white supremacists; it’s been black elitists, black Americans who live the American dream but who also adhere to the Marxist, socialist agenda.
“Every single urban community that is in misery, unemployed, uneducated, angry, becoming racist — what do they all have in common? The Democratic Party.”

Owens also spoke out against football players kneeling during the national anthem and against reparations. He spoke before the House committee against slavery reparations in 2019. He told legislators that his ancestors would be embarrassed by the way some black Americans are behaving:
“I’m so against anybody portraying that generation that did so much to raise such a great group of kids to be looked at as hopeless and hapless. They would be put down and disgusted to be looked at as oppressed when we were victors.”
Burgess Owens calls for Rashida Tlaib to be stripped of Committee assignments for ‘her anti-Semitism’

Representative-Elect Burgess Owens recently put out a statement that was in support of calls to see Rep. Rashida Tlaib removed from all congressional committees that started with Rep. Guy Reschenthaler, noting Tlaib’s recent anti-Semitic actions.
Earlier in December, Rep. Reschenthaler had some heavy criticism to dole out toward Rep. Tlaib over her participation in an anti-Israel conference and her recent Twitter post that carried a slogan associated with the eradication of Israel.
Back in late November, Tlaib was found to have shared a Twitter post (that she later amended) that read:
“From the river to the sea, Palestine will be free.”
While seemingly innocuous to perhaps those oblivious to the history between Israel and Palestine, that phrase is associated with Palestine overtaking the land between the Jordan River and the Mediterranean Sea – exactly where Israel happens to be.
In concurrence with that Twitter nonsense and Rep. Tlaib reportedly participating in a forum which is led by people with ties to Hamas and anti-Israel groups, Rep. Reschenthaler dropped the following statement:
“This week, Democrat Congresswoman Rashida Tlaib participated in a forum led by one of the nation’s most anti-Israel advocacy groups that featured other participants with reported connections to Hamas, terrorism financiers, and the Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions (BDS) movement.”
“Rep. Tlaib’s participation in this conference, coupled with her recently deleted retweet of a slogan calling for the elimination of Israel, are just the latest examples of a deeply disturbing pattern of anti-Semitism that has been on display since she was elected. Yet Speaker Pelosi and House Democrats refuse to condemn her heinous behavior.”
Reschenthaler explained that when one within the Republican side of the House made some racially-charged remarks, Republicans acted swiftly and both condemned and stripped the individual of their committee assignments:
“House Republicans demonstrated we have zero tolerance for hateful speech in our ranks. When outgoing Republican Congressman Steve King made inexcusable racist remarks, not only did he receive widespread condemnation from both sides of the aisle, but Republican Leader Kevin McCarthy rightfully stripped him of his committee assignments.”
“Speaker Pelosi, on the other hand, is deafeningly silent. By failing to act and hold Rep. Tlaib accountable, Pelosi is emboldening her and others to continue spreading and escalating this dangerous, hateful bigotry.”
The Republican Representative said that it “is past time” to shows Americans that members of the House will allow anti-Semitism go unchecked:
“It is past time we show the American people that there is no place in Congress, or anywhere, for this shameful intolerance. I call on my colleagues across the aisle to join me in calling for Rep. Tlaib to immediately lose her committee assignments.”
Burgess Owens – one of several newly-elected Republican House members – said he stands behind Rep. Reschenthaler’s remarks and that he too would like to see Rep. Tlaib disciplined for her racist rhetoric:
“I stand by Rep. Reschenthaler’s call to action for Speaker Pelosi to strip Rep. Tlaib of her Committee assignments.”
“As someone who has seen first-hand the horrors of prejudice and has seen our great country come so far, it is time we stand boldly against anti-Semitic rhetoric.”
“Whether coming from Hollywood or the halls of Congress, we owe it to our brothers and sisters in the Jewish community to say ‘no more.’”
Tlaib is one of the individuals known for being a part of the “Squad”, while Rep-Elect Owens is one of the newly dubbed “Freedom Force” – a group that Owens says “will give a contrast to the hard left.”
