LAKE OSWEGO, Ore. – A suspect in the Portland Hotel robbery was shot while trying to get away using a van driven by his wife leading to a police chase that ended in Lake Oswego. Prior to being shot, the suspect fired at police during the pursuit, KGW8 reports.
The suspect was identified as Josh Luther. He was taken to a hospital and was expected to recover from injuries according to police.
The suspect’s wife, Michelle Renee Luther, 28, was arrested and charged with aggravated attempted murder and was taken to the Washington County Jail.
The robbery occurred at the Aladdin Inn in Portland late Tuesday morning, according to police. A witness told the police that the suspect ran toward a gas station and rode in a white vehicle driven by Michelle. There were other passengers including children.
A chase ensued leading police through Tigard and Tualatin and ending in Lake Oswego. Shots were fired at the officers while the couple’s van crashes into other vehicles. Josh tried to run away carrying weapons but he was shot by a Tigard police officer and taken into custody.
“It’s really remarkable nobody else was injured today besides the suspect,” said Sgt. Pete Simpson from the Portland Police Department. There were also no officers injured during the pursuit.
The officer involved in the shooting was identified as Andrew Pastore, a 14-year veteran with Tigard police. The Washington County Major Crimes Team was leading the investigation.
