Nashville city council member advocates charging people who don’t wear masks with murder, attempted murder

NASHVILLE, TN – You want to know how off the rails some Democrats are about the coronavirus?

Look no further than Nashville, Tennessee, where a member of the city council is suggesting that people who do not wear masks be charged with murder or attempted murder.

You honestly cannot make this stuff up.

The Tennessee Star is reporting that At-Large Council Member Sharon Hurt last Wednesday was speaking during a virtual meeting of the Joint Public Safety and Health Committee and said that she apparently works for an organization which says “If they pass the virus, then they are tried for murder or attempted murder.”

She is suggesting that the same standard should apply to the general public.

If you’re not familiar with Hurt, and who would be, she actually proposed at one time renaming Nashville International Airport after Oprah Winfrey. Seriously.

This is what happens when you give politicians an inch…they take a mile.

Hurt no doubt is well aware of the number of “facemask Nazis” who permeate the public, lecturing people they don’t know about not wearing face coverings, despite the fact that we have been told by “experts” that one can protect themselves from the COVID-19 virus by wearing a mask.

The question becomes, if that is true, then what difference does it make if someone else isn’t wearing face protection?

That matters not to the ruling class, however. They want absolute control over people and the willing sheep are more than happy to oblige.

Look where we have come in just five months? We were initially told that we didn’t need masks by Dr. Fauci. Now Fauci said we need masks.

A couple of weeks ago he suggested everyone wear goggles. What happens if he comes out and says that scuba outfits are necessary?

Absurd? Absolutely. Out of the realm of possibility in 2020 America? Who knows?

We live in a world full of risks. Every day we are exposed to different kinds of viruses such as the flu virus, however people do not lose their minds over it.

Is the coronavirus serious? One would have to be a fool to say it isn’t and we are not suggesting that.

However, asking people to stop living their lives for an indeterminate period is not sustainable. And now, the suggestion that people who do not wear facemasks be charged with murder or attempted murder because they “might” spread the coronavirus?

Lest anyone think that Hurt is the only politician who possesses such a mindset, you might want to rethink that. Hurt explains her “logic.”

“This person who may very well pass this virus that’s out in the air because they’re not wearing a mask is basically doing the same thing to someone who contracts it and dies from it,” she said.

Once again we ask, if the person who “contracts” it is wearing a mask, how did they contract it if masks work?

“Maybe there needs to be stronger legislation to say that if you do not wear a mask, and you subject exposure of this virus to someone else then there will be some stronger penalty as it is in other viruses that are exposed,” Hurst continued.

Now if none of what she said makes any sense, you are not alone. She did not explain what “other viruses” she was talking about. Clearly this is a woman who is clueless and has no idea what she is talking about.

Hurt made this suggestion even as the number of COVID-19 cases in Nashville-Davidson County has been declining, and where the virus only has a fatality rate of 0.9%. Talk about overkill!

Hurt also condemned the lack of enforcement of mask mandates thus far.

“It seems to me that we have been more reactive as opposed to proactive and a little too late, too little,” she said.

Mike Jameson, Metro Nashville’s Director of Legislative affairs suggested to Hurt that she appeared to be unaware exactly whose jurisdiction creating new codes or class of criminal offenses fell under.

“The Council does not have the opportunity on its own to create criminal legislation,” he said. “In terms of creating a new code or class of criminal offenses, that is a creature of state law.”

Hurt was not pleased with the answer and her apparent lack of authority to impose her draconian point of view on the general public.

“I was afraid that was going to be the answer,” she complained.

“I guess that’s the whole point of asking for something to be done as early as the Council was pushing,” she said “It seems like it was not taken as seriously as it should have been and thus we are in the situation we are in right now.”

Yes, a fatality rate of less than 1/10th of 1% and Hurt believes more needs to be done.

The previous day, Nashville’s mayor John Cooper issued a statement that he was ordering the Metro Nashville Police Department to issue citations to persons not complying with the Health Department’s mask order.

Because obviously, the police department has nothing better to do than act as the enforcement arm for the imposition of random, draconian government mandates.

The order dictates an additional 30 officers working walking details on Broadway from 3:30 p.m. to midnight, six of whom will be on ATVs to stop and cite any “transpotainment” vehicles which are operating in violation of a Health Department prohibition.

In addition, the city has been utilizing 19 school resource officers who have been working on Broadway in the city on “public mask compliance” on Friday and Saturday nights since the middle of July.

In other words, the 21st largest city in the U.S. is utilizing over 3% of its police force enforcing mask mandates. When are the American people going to have enough of this nonsense? Unknown.

It is ironic that while cities demonize police for being power-hungry thugs who are hell-bent on killing people, they are using those same police officers to harass people over not wearing masks that may or may not even be necessary.

Because who then is the face of those draconian policies or mandates? Yes, the police. They will be the ones who are made to look like the power-hungry bad guys, not the politicians who force them to employ such mandates.

Cooper has also  prohibited the sale, possession or alcohol consumption except for on-premises or delivery after he signed “Public Health Order 10” that went into effect Saturday.

This is what happens when power goes to people’s heads. This is not about public health; this is about power.
