Flashback: Biden’s proposed deputy chief of staff advocated mandatory buybacks of “assault” weapons

WASHINGTON, DC- So, Biden wants to “unite” the country, huh? Well one way to do that is to confiscate guns from several millions of law-abiding Americans. And that is, exactly, what Biden’s proposed Deputy Chief of Staff has advocated for, according to numerous sources including Breitbart News.

Jennifer O’Malley Dillon, who managed failed soy-boy Robert (call me Beto) O’Rourke’s joke of a 2020 presidential campaign, has previously proposed “mandatory” buybacks for certain firearms.

In a September 2019 Democrat presidential debate, O’Rourke said, “Hell yes, we’re going to take your AR-15, your AK-47.” Or as Biden would say, your “AR-16.”

According to Fox News, less than a month later, O’Malley Dillon pushed “mandatory” buybacks in a video, saying:

“We are actually the only campaign with a plan…that supports mandatory buybacks of weapons of war. An assault weapon ban is very, very important, and we need to have it. But that only takes weapons of war off the streets in the future. It does nothing for weapons of war that are currently out there.”

“Weapons of war.” Oh yeah, the “black, scary-looking” rifles that are exactly the same as a Bushmaster hunting rifle, except, well…they’re black and scary looking.

Aside from O’Malley Dillon, both Biden (when he was conscious) and his proposed vice-president Kamala Harris have also supported mandatory buybacks.

In September, 2019, Breitbart reported that Harris had expressed support for a government-ordered buyback of AR-15 rifles. Harris said that she had not worked out all the details. However, Bloomberg News reported that she said at the time, “I think it’s a good idea.”

Last November, CNN interviewed Biden, who confirmed his plans to go after guns. CNN’s Anderson Cooper asked Biden:

“So, to gun owners out there who say, well, a Biden administration means they’re going to come for my guns?”

“Bingo!” Biden said. “You’re right if you have an assault weapon. The fact of the matter is, they should be illegal, period.”

He had doubled down during an earlier Democrat debate in August, 2019, when he said:

“Folks, look, and I would buy back [assault] weapons. We already started talking about that. We tried to get it done. I think it can be done. And it should be demanded that we do it. And that’s a good expenditure of money.”

Fox News said that Biden’s campaign called for giving owners of “assault weapons or high-capacity magazines” the option to either sell their weapons to the government, or to register them with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives [emphasis added] under an expansion of the National Firearms Act.

Many firearms advocates believe that requiring registration of such weapons would be the first step in a mandatory confiscation program, which has been advocated by some leftists.

Ironically, senator and former presidential candidate Bernie Sanders (I-VT) had previously criticized the idea of mandatory buybacks, calling them unconstitutional. In addition, police groups and Second Amendment advocates have also criticized the idea of mandatory buybacks.

Breitbart News reported on Nov. 17, 2020 that according to the National Shooting Sports Foundation, Americans own roughly 434 million firearms, a number that has exploded this year since riots and anarchy spread across the nation.

NSSF says that out of the total above, around 19.8 are categorized as Modern Sporting Rifles, i.e. “scary-looking” AR-15s, AK-47s, and variants of both, along with similar “scary looking” rifle platforms.

In other words, Biden, Harris and the radical O’Malley Dillon think they are going to confiscate nearly 20 million firearms which the trio classify as “black, scary looking” rifles.

Good luck with that.

You often hear from the anti-gun crowd, “Why does anyone need a ‘weapon of war?’” The fact of the matter is the AR-15 offers flexibility, accuracy and ease of use.

According to a Vox editorial in 2016, AR-15’s are the “most thoroughly tested and debugged firearm in military history.” The AR-15 is the weapon of choice for hunters, home defense, competitive shooters and police, whose use of the AR-15 as a “patrol rifle” is common.

Many firearms haters do not see the need for such a weapon. In fact, Biden famously said at one time all you need is a shotgun, just shoot it up in the air. This was truly one of the most ignorant comments we have seen on the subject, since simple physics shows this is a bad idea. You know, the old “what goes up, must come down” theory.

Since the anti-gunners classify AR-15s as “assault weapons,” the common theory is that “if they’re for defensive purposes, why do you need an ‘assault’ weapon?”

As the Vox author noted, defensive shooting teaches that you are supposed to “shoot to stop the threat.” The vernacular used to be “shoot to kill,” but that presented all kinds of liability issues, so the common terminology was adopted as “shoot to stop.”

Biden famously said earlier this year “shoot them in the leg.” That is such a mindboggling, ignorant (and dangerous) statement. We can get into the whole physiology of how shooting someone in the leg, where the femoral artery is located, isn’t much better than shooting center mass, but we digress.

There is also the matter of training.

Despite Hollywood showing skilled police marksmen, like Mel Gibson, shooting guns out of people’s hands, that is simply not practical. All professional firearms training teaches you to keep shooting at the largest target, center mass, until the threat is stopped.

Continuum of force training shows that when one makes the decision to go to firearms, it is a matter of life and death…your life and your death. When you get to this point, you are now protecting your own life and that of the attacker is secondary. It’s one of the most basic of human instincts…self- preservation.

The AR-15, as one of the most accurate, if not THE most accurate weapons of a small caliber are dominant in police departments and even in some military applications for a reason.

People will conflate so-called “assault” weapons with “defensive” weapons when they are actually the exact same thing. As the Vox article notes, an assault weapon IS a defensive weapon. In effect as the editorial notes, “anyone who ‘needs’ a defense rifle ‘needs’ an assault rifle,” because they are one in the same.

At a time when police are under attack and being defunded, this is not when politicians should be planning on seizing firearms, in particular the preeminent defensive weapon out there. Unfortunately, people that understand nothing about firearms are the ones intent on making such decisions.
