Profiles In Courage – He Was Shot, Died Twice, Left Paralyzed And Still Continues To Serve – Detective Dan Brite.

Detective Dan Brite was shot by a heavily armed and suicidal man on a SWAT call out. The high power rifle round entered through the side of his vest, causing catastrophic, life threatening injuries. He died twice during medical treatment, the trauma medical team brought him back from death. Dan was left paralyzed from the waist down. In this episode of the Law Enforcement Today Radio Show and Podcast, he talks about the incident, the struggle to survive and recover and why he feels it is so important to continue to serve the Law Enforcement and First Responder family.

The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office received a call for a despondent, heavily armed suicidal man. On their arrival Officers were immediately fired upon by the suspect. Detective Dan Brite, part of the Department’s SWAT team was one of several officers who responded to the call.

Moments later Detective Dan Brite was shot. Despite the top of the line protective SWAT gear, the vest was unable to stop the rifle round that nearly ended his life.

Detective Dan Brite talks about the event that nearly ended his life, the trauma medical team that saved his life under miraculous circumstances. He also discusses his long road of recovery and his new normal, living with paralysis. Despite the paralysis Dan continues to serve our national law enforcement and first responder family.
