“He waited until I was away from my car. He stuck his head out the car window, he floored it and he ran me down. The look on his face… he was trying to kill me…” Profiles In Courage – He Survived A Murder Attempt Only To Fight His Agency and County – Retired Corporal Eddie Richardson in this episode of the Law Enforcement Today Radio Show and Podcast.
The Law Enforcement Today Radio Show and Podcast is brought to in part by Transformations Treatment Center, learn more about their First Responder – Veterans – Law Enforcement treatment program.
Retired Sheriff’s Corporal Eddie Richardson talks about the incident where a suspect tried to murder him with a motor vehicle. He survived but the suspect did not. He talks about the permanent devastating injuries that caused his retirement. Eddie also discusses the lengthy battles he had to fight with the agency and County that he worked for and almost died for.
In August of 2016 Corporal Eddie Richardson was dispatched to what he thought would be an unusual call, from people that frequently called the Sheriff’s Department. At that time Eddie Richardson was a Lexington County Sheriff’s Office master deputy. He was ambushed by a suspect who deliberately hit him and tried to run him over with a vehicle.
Eddie Richardson survived, the suspect did not. He was left with life long spinal damage, permanent nerve damage in addition to cartilage injuries in his hip and leg. Those injuries ended his law enforcement career and he was retired.
But some of the the biggest challenges he would face were yet to come.
While he receives some retirement pay through, Richardson said his health insurance was canceled and his seven years with the sheriff’s office didn’t qualify him for county retiree insurance.
And to make matters worse, in his attempts to raise awareness about his predicament, he says the Sheriff’s Department blocked him from their facebook page.
