“It looks like a war zone.” Portland Police Association office torched by violent ‘protestors’.

PORTLAND, OR – As Democrat ‘leaders’ in Oregon sue the feds who are trying to enforce law and order in the city, the violence continues to escalate.

Portland Police issued a statement on Saturday sharing the details of several groups of protestors that turned events from legal assemblies to criminal activities.

“The crowd made a two mile walk to the area of North Lombard Street and North Campbell Avenue where the Portland Police Association (PPA) offices are located at about 10:31 p.m.

Individuals began to break in the front doors of the PPA office while others blocked North Lombard Street with dumpsters which were soon lit on fire. Many in the crowd wore helmets and carried clubs and shields.

At about 10:45 p.m., people broke into the PPA office and within a few moments ignited a fire inside. As Portland Police arrived, many began to flee to the east. Portland Police declared a riot due to the violent conduct of the large group creating a grave risk of public alarm.

Police issued public address announcements and moved the crowd east. As the crowd was dispersed, several people in the crowd were arrested and officers were able to extinguish the fire. Portland Police did not use any CS gas.”

According to KGW8, the “protest in North Portland was declared a riot after police say protesters broke into the bureau’s union headquarters building and set it on fire. The fire was put out minutes later, police said.

The fire at the Portland Police Association building, on North Lombard Street, happened around 10:50 p.m. Police said demonstrators also moved dumpsters onto the street and lit them on fire. Social media reports show police rushed protesters to clear out the crowd.”

The headline for the article run on the NBC affiliates website was:

“Police declare riot in North Portland after union headquarters briefly set on fire”

We added the italics on ‘briefly’ to add emphasis.

It is almost as though the writer was trying to convey that the length of the fire’s duration determines whether or not a crime has been committed.

While the Portland Police Bureau stated that they did not deploy CS to disperse the crowd, other media sources contradicted that claim.

“Tear gas was deployed, The Associated Press reported citing pictures and videos from the scene, but the news wire noted it was not necessarily CS gas.

Police said groups scattered into the neighborhood, with a large number people regrouped near North Interstate Avenue and North Lombard Street. As officers moved the crowd to the south on North Interstate Avenue, people in the crowds “threw rocks, gopher gassers, and launched paint filled balloons at officers,” injuring some officers, police said.”

Other outlets alluded to officers using gas to thin the crowds out and drive them from the area.

What some of them forgot to mention is that the use of that control measure was actually employed by federal agents and not Portland police.

While the feds have been cracking down on law breakers and striving to put an end to the nightly violence, politicians in the city or claiming that the violence is the fault of the agents that have been sent in to clean things up.

According to The Hill

Portland Mayor Ted Wheeler (D) on Sunday called for the Trump administration to remove federal troops from the city. He said the federal law enforcement presence is ‘leading to more violence and more vandalism’” and is ‘not helping the situation at all.’

‘They’re not wanted here, we haven’t asked them here. In fact, we want them to leave,’ the mayor said on CNN’s State of the Union.”

President Trump, never one to mince words, responded to Mayor Wheeler.

“We are trying to help Portland, not hurt it. Their leadership has, for months, lost control of the anarchists and agitators. They are missing in action. We must protect Federal property, AND OUR PEOPLE. These were not merely protesters, these are the real deal!”

In typical denialist fashion, Portlanders had a response.

“No violent crimes, only vandalism, and Trump’s response is throwing away our civil liberties.”

It is apparent that some of these people do not grasp the reality of what is happening. These bad actors are not merely committing acts of vandalism. People are being beaten. Buildings are being burned down by arsonists. Being arrested for breaking the law is not an a civil rights violation.

No violent crimes? Even Mayor Wheeler says that there is violence. He just doesn’t seem to want to do anything to stop it.

Hey, Nick Jack Pappas, remember this from last week.

Protests turned violent Friday night in downtown Portland as two protesters were arrested after one shined a laser pointer into federal agents’ eyes and another attacked a U.S. Marshal with a hammer.

Officials took to Twitter to say 23-year-old Jacob Gaines was seen “breaking down a door of the Federal Courthouse with a hammer creating a hole in the door.”

As Marshals moved in to stop Gaines from damaging the Edith Green-Wendell Wyatt Federal Building, he reportedly hit one of the agents three times with the 16-inch sledgehammer.

Gaines was subsequently arrested and now faces one count of assault on a federal officer. The marshal avoided serious injury.

A second incident occurred at the same protest when 24-year-old Edward Carubis reportedly shined a green laser into the eyes of at least three different federal agents. The agents suffered watery eyes and blurred vision as a result of the laser.

One agent reported that he developed a sunspot that obscured his vision for roughly 20 minutes after the attack.

These were not isolated incidents. This type of violence occurs almost nightly.

But while politicians are doing nothing to safeguard its citizens and have been putting a leash on local authorities, Chuck Lovell, the Chief of Police took to Twitter.

Sadly, Chief Lovell’s pleas will fall on many deaf ears. But not everyone in Portland is jumping on the anti-cop, “defund” bandwagon.

One of the notes referenced in the video issued on Twitter was simply worded, but said exactly what so many millions of us around this country feel.

“Thank you for serving and protecting our city& our people. We are praying for God’s protection over you & direction for you. We know you are good men and women. Stay strong & come home safe.”
