A driver in Germany is being left “in peace” after a perfectly timed photo prevented them from getting nailed with a hefty speeding ticket.
Police shared a bit of a laugh when their speeding camera was triggered for a driver traveling 34 mph (54 kph) in an 18 mph (30 kph) zone.
But when they went to properly identify the driver, a pigeon was caught perfectly in place. The driver’s face could not be seen.
They took to Facebook to joke about the odd mishap.
The post roughly translates to, “The Holy Ghost may have thought something of it when he placed his symbol in an exposed spot on May 21st. We have understood the sign and leave the speeder in peace this time. However, we hope that the protected speeder understands this “hint from above” as well and drives it appropriately in the future. Thanks to the feathered guardian angel with apparently carefully spread wings, this probably spared him now.”
In the Facebook post, the department says they hope the driver will “take the hint from above” and not repeat the offense, which would have cost them about $117 US.
They also joked that Mother Nature could be penalized for going too fast as well, as the bird appeared to have been keeping up with the vehicle.
“Actually, the pigeon would have earned a fine as well, because she was also too fast on the way. But since we don’t know in which place she needs to be on time for Pentecost, we also have mercy on her right here.”
Another video went viral just a few weeks ago when another super fast bird set off a speed camera. The bird was clocked at 45 kilometers per hour (28 mph) in a 30 kilometers per hour (18.6 mph). Looks like birds are breaking speed limits all over Germany.
