PELHAM, N.H. — New Hampshire police say they were forced to drag a driver out of his burning car after it crashed into a tree. The man refused to leave, telling them he was a mechanic, reported the New York Post.
Witnesses reported the collision to police Monday night. They said the driver refused help from law enforcement and firefighters.
When officers arrived, Michael Hines, 53, of Derry, refused to get out of the car. Police say they removed him but he tried to get back in as the fire spread and the tires exploded.
Finally, officers dragged the non-compliant man to safety, and he was uninjured.
However, it was not a good night for the man. Hines was charged with driving under the influence and possession of cocaine.
