PHILADELPHIA, Penn. – Police are looking for two young suspects that are on the loose after cops say the pair opened fire on a large crowd that had gathered for a neighborhood basketball game Saturday night.
According to the report from CBS 3 in Philadelphia, seven people were rushed to the hospital after the unknown suspects began firing into a crowd that contained hundreds of bystanders.
The shooting happened just after 9 p.m. at 54th Street and Lansdowne Avenue in the city’s Overbrook neighborhood.

Police say six men and one woman between 18 and 32-years-old were rushed to local hospitals in stable condition, most with wounds pertaining to their arms and legs. One victim had been shot multiple times. Originally, the victim count had been reported as eight, but authorities confirmed it was seven.
Authorities say it was a miracle that there were no casualties… or more injuries.
“We know that there was a basketball game inside this park along with several hundred other people having a party, and two males start firing,” said Philadelphia Police Commissioner Richard Ross.
Ross said the noise from the game was so intense that even though approximately 20 rounds had been fired, most of the members of the crowd hadn’t even noticed.
“Apparently there were so many people and it was so noisy that when police responded the people on the basketball court were still playing basketball,” Philadelphia Police Commissioner Richard Ross said. “They didn’t even known gunshots had been erupted.”
Philadelphia police are saying that the two suspects were not firing at each other, and their motive for the shooting remains unknown at this time.
“It’s on a playground with 2, 300 people, it’s amazing we didn’t have any fatalities or even more people shot. It appears at least 20 rounds were fired. It’s just a sad indication where we are in society where people resort to this sort of behavior for God knows what. It just makes no sense whatsoever.”
Cops are still on the lookout for the two suspects. Little information is clear at the current time, but police say that they are looking for two male suspects between the ages of 18 and 25. No arrests have been made at this time.
Anyone with any information is asked to call police at 215-686-TIPS.
The investigation into the shooting is ongoing. This story will be updated as more information becomes publicly available.
