Pelosi won’t let head of Capitol police union testify in commission – is it because she’s afraid of what he’ll say?

WASHINGTON, DC- Amen Ted Cruz! If ever an American politician nailed his political opposition to a tee, it was Texas Sen. Ted Cruz (R) this past week, when he said:

“If you want to understand how power corrupts, and absolute power corrupts absolutely, look no further than the other chamber in the United States Capitol,” Cruz said on the Senate floor Thursday. “Speaker Nancy Pelosi is drunk on power.”

She’s likely drunk period, but that’s another issue.

Cruz was of course talking to Pelosi’s mandate threat that House members would be fined if they refused to wear masks after the CDC flip-flopped for the tenth time on COVID guidance. He could also have been talking about her current version of a Spanish Inquisition, otherwise known as the January 6 inquiry, being conducted in the House.

Law Enforcement Today reported last week on the initial testimony from four police officers, carefully selected politically motivated officers who were there specifically to push the Democrat version of a Donald Trump-inspired “insurrection.” More important than who IS testifying is who IS NOT testifying.

The head of the United States Capitol Police union, Gus Papathanasiou last week urged Pelosi to allow more officers to testify before the House select committee investigating the January 6 siege.

Papathanasiou argues that the problems encountered on January 6 were predictable and were years in the making, which of course would make Pelosi look like…well Pelosi, an incompetent mean girl who has no business being Speaker of the House.

“Poor morale, inequitable pay and conditions, and a leadership that refuses to engage—these are contributing factors to the events of January 6th, and they remain factors still, today,” he said in a statement.

“The Union asks that the Committee listen to the active-duty police officers who have been chosen by the rank and file to represent them.”

Papathanasiou’s comments are likely part of the reason why Pelosi wouldn’t permit Reps. Jim Banks (R-IN) and Jim Jordan (R-OH) to participate as members of the committee, because Pelosi likely feared that reasons other than the preferred Democratic Party and state media narrative would be exposed.

In fact, Banks as much as said so, saying the union president and other officers’ voices are being silenced because they do not advance Pelosi’s narrative of a violent insurrection which was defended by police officers such as the select four.

“At yesterday’s January 6th Select Committee hearing, we only heard Pelosi’s cherry-picked version of events because she shut out any voices that didn’t further her partisan narrative.

“One of the voices Democrats rejected was the head of the Capitol Police union, Gus Papathanasiou, who is elected by rank-and-file officers to represent their views. Around 90% of USCP officers belong to the union,” Banks said in a statement.

Hey, we thought the Democrats were big fans of organized unions? Apparently only when they back the Democrats’ narrative.

In an interview last week, Banks told Breitbart News that he asked the committee’s chairman, Bennie Thompson if Papathanasiou could testify, but the request was ignored.

The committee is an abject joke, consisting of seven Democrats, including long-time Trump hater and Russia collusion theorist Rep. Adam Schiff (D-CA), another long-time Trump antagonist Rep. Jamie Raskin (D-MD) and two Republican never-Trumpers, Rep. Adam Kinzinger (R-IL) and Rep. Liz Cheney (R-WY). All were hand-picked by Pelosi.

Initially, House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) had selected five Republicans, including Banks and Jordan to be on the committee, but pulled them after Pelosi had a meltdown and blocked the latter from being on the committee. In lieu of that, House Republicans are planning on carrying out their own investigation.

On Tuesday, four police officers—two Capitol police officers and two from the DC Metro Police testified in testimony about the January 6 incident, all blaming solely Republicans and/or former President Trump for the violence and also accused Republicans of downplaying the incident.

None however spoke about the unprovoked murder of Trump supporter Ashli Babbitt, an unarmed military veteran who was gunned down by a plainclothes officer believed to be affiliated with the Capitol police.

That officer has never been identified and has been cleared of wrongdoing in the shooting. It’s a pretty good bet that this will never be mentioned during Pelosi’s witch hunt.

While Papathanasiou acknowledged their testimony was a “crucial start” to understand the impact that day had on Capitol and DC police officers, he noted the union “stands ready” to add important context as to what went wrong on January 6—which could also include scrutiny of the House leadership since 2018.

“The police response to January 6th represents a disastrous collapse of leadership that was not simply an aberration confined to that one day. It was months and years in the making,” he said in a statement.

“To fully understand why our officers felt so abandoned, requires an understanding of how they came to be left uninformed and lacking in defenses when it mattered most—when an attack on the U.S. Capitol was being fully realized,” he said, adding:

“Most importantly, we arrived at that position of vulnerability because the voices of the rank-and-file officers had been ignored for years.

There was no collaboration from Capitol Police leaders with the frontline officers, instead it was a top-down approach that left a void of information and planning. As an officer working that day, I can attest there was NO plan, and certainly no contingency plans by the Chiefs.

“That lack of leadership had tragic consequences. The riots led to the deaths of officers, and injuries to an estimated 140 Capitol Police and MPD officers, some of whom will never return to service.”

There have been questions also raised after it was revealed that former Capitol Police Chief Steven Sund had made multiple requests for the National Guard to supplement police on January 6, a request which was denied by Pelosi, or DC Mayor Muriel Bowser or both.

In addition, former Trump defense official Kash Patel said the Pentagon had offered military resources for January 6, which was also denied.

On Tuesday, Republicans argued that much of the responsibility for the events of January 6 fall on Pelosi as speaker of the House for not protecting the Capitol on January 6.

Rep. Elise Stefanik (R-NY), the number three ranking Republican tweeted, “Nancy Pelosi bears responsibility as Speaker of the House for the tragedy that occurred on January 6th”:

McCarthy also questioned why the Capitol was left virtually unprotected:

“Why was the Capitol left so vulnerable that day? Why wasn’t the National Guard here? Why didn’t we have a better security posture? What changes are needed to make sure it never happens again?” he asked.

“On January 6, these brave officers were put into a vulnerable and impossible position because the leadership at the top has failed,” he said at a press conference prior to the hearing.

Papathanasiou said the Capitol remains vulnerable if the committee doesn’t hear from the “broader rank-and-file.”

“As individual officers testified today, they did their best and succeeded in their mission to protect all members of Congress and their staff that day,” he said.

“The Committee needs all the facts to understand why the U.S. Capitol was so vulnerable, and why it will remain vulnerable if the broader rank-and-file officers are not heard,” he said.

Anyone watching this sham should be able to clearly identify what the end game is. Demonize Trump, demonized his supporters, and use the January 6 incident as a pretext to harass Trump supporters going forward. Nothing more, nothing less.

DIG DEEPER

WASHINGTON, DC- Sorry Harry…we’re not buying it. Let’s get something out of the way…we condemn the January 6 participants who committed violence, in particular against police officers.

However testimony of police officers who were there on January 6 must be weighed in terms of the totality of the circumstances. With that in mind, the testimony of Capitol police officer Harry Dunn doesn’t pass the smell test. This is especially true when you realize he is a sympathizer of Black Lives Matter terrorists.

While testifying before the Democrat-orchestrated January 6 “commission” this week, Dunn alleged those who protested at the Capitol on January 6 were akin to racist members of the KKK.

It might be easier to believe Dunn if the tens of thousands of hours of video surveillance was released, which the powers that be, have refused to do. Of course the KKK analogy plays into the Democrats’ absurd claim that all Trump supporters are violent white supremacists.

In watching the testimony of Dunn and the three other officers, it appeared to be contrived, in some cases like they were seeing the words for the first time. One might almost think they were reading a script.

Oh, a couple of “sobs” here and there helped perpetuate the “horror” these officers felt. What didn’t help were the crocodile tears that came from phonies such as Reps. Adam Kinzinger (R-IL) and Adam Schiff (D-CA).

Nobody was buying it.

Dunn however, a giant of a man, became overcome as he described what he called were “racist slurs” he and other black officers were subjected to on that date. Now it would be naïve to expect that out of the thousand or so individuals that entered the Capitol that date that none could be considered racist. However Dunn seemed to allege they were all racist.

So who exactly is Harry Dunn? He is clearly a partisan Democrat (he admitted in testimony to voting for Biden) who last year supported Black Lives Matter terrorism in American cities and towns.

Yes, the same Black Lives Matter terrorists who shot and killed former St. Louis police captain David Dorn, and other police officers, and who injured and maimed tens of thousands of Dunn’s brother and sister police officers across the country. And yet now he expects sympathy?

Last year after the shooting of Jacob Blake in Kenosha, Wisconsin, Fox News host Tucker Carlson tweeted the following:

“Kenosha devolved into anarchy because the authorities abandoned the people. Those in charge, from the governor on down, refused to enforce the law. They’ve stood back and watched Kenosha burn. Are we really surprised that looting and arson accelerated to murder?”

In response to Carlson’s tweet, Dunn said the following:

“Why is murder an appropriate response to property damage but property damage isn’t an appropriate response to murder?”

In other words, Dunn justified the violence, which by the way resulted in a number of police officers being injured.

Dunn is also a fan of far-left neo-Marxist, anti-Semite, anti-cop Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN), defending her several times and joked and laughed when President Trump was rushed off-stage during a security incident in 2019.

Dunn also referred to former President Donald Trump as “Racist in Chief” in a 2019 tweet in which he said:

“Racism is so American, that when you protest it, it’s protesting America! #RacistInChief #Racism #leaveittowhitestotellblackswhatisntracist #IStandWithIlhanOmar #squad”

https://twitter.com/libradunn/status/1151896113177387010?s=20

Dunn also doesn’t appear to care for his fellow police officers all that much:

A tour through Dunn’s Twitter feed shows he is an obsessed hater of former President Trump and is also obsessed to a pretty unhealthy level with the incident on January 6.

Big League Politics reported as follows on Pelosi’s sham January 6 inquisition:

On Tuesday, the sham hearings about the mostly peaceful protest in and around the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6 began in the U.S. House, and they are even more revolting than expected.

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) called on Capitol Police officers who recited lines prepared to justify a sustained unconstitutional crackdown against Trump supporters. Having failed completely to secure the Capitol on Jan. 6, they want the focus off their own incompetence on that fateful day.

DC Metropolitan Police Officer Michael Fanone poured on the histrionics, comparing what he experienced that day to ‘Hell’…

DC Metropolitan Police Officer Daniel Hodges said that he considers Trump supporters as terrorists in his carefully choreographed testimony…

U.S. Capitol Police Sgt. Aquilino Gonell recited partisan talking points on cue to demonize Trump on behalf of the Democrats in charge…

Rep. Adam Kinzinger (R-IL), one of the worst Trump critics in the entire GOP, actually started weeping during the hearing…

Rep. Adam Schiff (D-CA) attempted to muster tears while giving his testimony but could not produce them…

Rep. Liz Cheney (R-WY) who has consistently supported war crimes throughout the world, used the hearings to make the case to bring the war on terror home and use it against Trump supporters with Jan. 6 as a convenient excuse.”

If Pelosi and the Democrats want this farce to be taken seriously, they need to call others to testify, including the president of the US Capitol Police officers’ union.

In January, union Chairman Gus Papathanasiou blasted the department’s leadership after then-acting Police Chief Yogananda Pittman testified in congressional testimony that the department knew two days prior to the Jan. 6 incident there was a “strong potential for violence and that Congress was the target.”

“The disclosure that the entire executive team (former Chief [Steven] Sund, now Acting Chief Pittman, and Assistant Chief [Chad] Thomas) knew what was coming but did not better prepare us for potential violence, including the possible use of firearms against us, is unconscionable,” Papathanasiou said in a statement at the time.

 In congressional testimony, Pittman said:

“Let me be clear: the department should have been more prepared for this attack,” she said in written testimony to the House Appropriations Committee.

Meanwhile, according to NPR, former Capitol police chief Steven Sund said in January that he had made early requests to have the National Guard supplement his officers at the Capitol on January 6, but was rebuffed by security officials in both the House and Senate, he told the Washington Post.

Sund told the Post that then House Sergeant-at-Arms Paul Irving was concerned about the “optics” of declaring an emergency ahead of the protests and rejected calls to bring in the DC National Guard.

Then-Senate Sergeant-at-Arms Michael Stenger had recommended he (Sund) informally request the Guard to be ready in case it was needed to maintain security. Both Irving and Stenger resigned their posts soon after the January 6 incident.

Sund’s claims were recently backed up by Kash Patel, former Chief of Staff to the Secretary of Defense under the Trump administration.

In an interview with The Epoch Times, Patel said that not only did those in charge of security at the Capitol refuse the National Guard presence on January 6, it was done at the direction of Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA). DC Mayor Muriel Bowser also denied a request to have the Guard present in the Capitol area on that date, according to Gateway Pundit.

He also accused FBI Director Christopher Wray of failing to notify the Trump administration and his cabinet secretaries there was the potential for violence on Jan. 6. It’s almost like the whole thing was a setup!

Meanwhile Dunn and the other three Capitol police officers who testified before Pelosi’s inquisition panel, a clear political hit job, have lost any and all credibility they had with police officers across the country, a majority of whom can see the sham for exactly what it is.

In the case of Dunn, he clearly doesn’t know whose side he’s supposed to be on. Defending Black Lives Matter thugs who murder and assault police officers? What a punk.
