LYON COUNTY, Iowa – A Lyon County Sheriff’s deputy tragically passed away on Tuesday after sustaining complications from serious injuries received in a motor vehicle accident last week.

Officer Down Memorial Page confirms that Deputy Sheriff Stephanie Schreurs passed away on August 13 in a South Dakota hospital.

Deputy Sheriff Schreurs was in a vehicle crash on Friday, four days earlier, on highway K-52, near Rock Rapids, Iowa, ODMP.org reported.

According to reports from the wreck, Deputy Schreurs’ patrol vehicle left the roadway while on a sharp curve, went into a ditch, and then rolled over. Schreurs was flown to a hospital in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, where she remained until eventually succumbing to her injuries.

 

Deputy Schreurs had served as a law enforcement officer on the Lyon County Sheriff’s Department for the last 24 years. She will be greatly missed.

A memorial fund has been established in honor of Deputy Schreurs at Security Savings Bank in Larchwood, Iowa, KSFY reported.

 

Funeral arrangements are pending and details will be released when available.

 

The Lyon County Sheriff’s Office said in their statement that they are thankful for the outpouring of support they have received from the surrounding law enforcement agencies, first responders, medical staff, and community.

According to reports, the details of the crash are still under investigation by Iowa State Patrol. 

Rest in peace, Deputy Schreurs. You are gone, but not forgotten.
