PINE HILLS, Fla.A wanted murder suspect accused of shooting an Orlando police officer three times outside a Walmart was on the run Monday as medics raced to save the officer’s life, reported Fox News.

Tragically, the officer shot has died, reported Orlando Police Department on Twitter:

The suspect, identified as 41-year-old Markeith Loyd, was accused of murdering his pregnant girlfriend last month, Fox 35 reported.

Loyd was wearing a security uniform at the time of Monday’s shooting, a witness told WFTV.

“(The shooter) was an average looking dude, he walked by me, had a security vest and everything,” witness James Herman told the station. “I was walking down the sidewalk, right past the officer, and I heard her tell him to stop, or whatever, and he shot her. He shot her down.”

Herman said the officer received a tip that Lloyd was in Walmart. As she walked towards the store, the suspect came out shooting.

An Orange County sheriff’s deputy spotted the suspected gunman,  Markeith Loyd, at the intersection of North Lane and Pine Hills Drive and followed him to a nearby apartment complex, officials said.

The man shot at the deputy, hitting his unmarked SUV twice, and then carjacked a second vehicle and continued to flee, the Orange County Sheriff’s Office said.

He abandoned the vehicle near the intersection of Rosemont Avenue and Cinderlane Parkway and fled on foot, deputies said.

There are 13 area schools in lockdown as police search for the suspect.

Orlando Police Department identified the murdered officer as Master Sgt. Debra Clayton, a 17 year veteran.
