It seems as if a week can’t go by without Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez thrusting herself into the headlines.  And we’re more than happy to capture the comedic and ironic value of this U.S. Representative for you.

On Wednesday, the New York Democrat urged her followers to back an Uber-Lyft boycott, despite her staff already spending thousands of dollars on rides through them this year.

She called for a boycott ahead of a worldwide strike, which is being organized in response to Uber’s anticipated initial public offering this Friday for more than $90 billion.

It’s a number that drivers argue comes at the cost of reduced wages and job security.

So despite the fact that Cortez’s campaign finance records show her team has spent nearly $2,000 on ride-hailing services this year along, she took to twitter to tell people to avoid them.

“It’s a small but big way you can help all the drivers you’ve met get paid more to feed their families + support themselves,” she wrote.

In May of 2017, she declared her candidacy to unseat incumbent Democrat Joe Crowley and began criticizing Ubert and Lyft. But since then, her campaign has ramped up usage of them at the same time.

In 2018, her campaign finance records show her team spent more than $16,000 on the ride sharing programs.
Yet she still argues they are evil.  Last August, she went so far as to blame Uber for the suicide of a cab driver after he took his own life with a shotgun.

“NYC’s fourth driver suicide. Yellow cab drivers are in financial ruin due to the unregulated expansion of Uber. What was a living wage job now pays under minimum.

We need:
– to call Uber drivers what they are: EMPLOYEES, not contractors
– Fed jobs guarantee
– Prep for automation

“NYC”s fourth driver suicide. Yellow cab drivers are in financial ruin due to the unregulated expansion of Uber. What was a living wage job now pays under minimum,” she wrote.

To try and reinforce her point, her campaign has cut SOME spending on Uber.

But according to Federal Election Commission records, she shifted those funds to Lyft and Juno.

The Uber boycott is actually the second time Cortez is making headlines this week for the absurdity.

The first reason… was when she publicly declared she just learned what a garbage disposal is.  And no, this is not something ripped from a satire site like The Onion – it’s real life.

The 29-year-old freshman congresswoman put up photos and video on Instagram highlighting the apparently “terrifying” contraption at work in her swanky DC apartment and saying she’d never seen one before.

“OK everyone I need your help because I just moved into this apartment a few months ago and I just flipped a switch and it made that noise and it scared the daylights out of me,” Ocasio-Cortez can be heard saying in footage.

She claims she had no idea what it was.

“I am told this is a garbage disposal. I’ve never seen a garbage disposal. I never had one in any place I’ve ever lived,” she later said.

The “Green New Deal”-touting Bronx Democrat then went on to question whether the device was “environmentally sound.”

“This DC apartment is bougie and has things I’ve never seen before…,” Ocasio-Cortez captioned the video, later noting: “Is this what social mobility is? Using kitchen appliances you never saw growing up?”

She ended her Instagram story by addressing the comments she was receiving.

“All you people telling me to reach in and grab whatever’s there are just Republicans trying to test my health insurance.  I’m onto you.”
