NEW YORK CITY, NY – New York Police Department vehicles were hit with glass bottles and other debris in Harlem after responding to reports of shots fired at 132nd St. and Adam Clayton Powell Jr. Blvd. on early Sunday morning.
According to NYPD Sgt. Mary Frances O’Donnell, the police were responding to a “shot spotter activation.”
A spokesperson for the NYPD said:
“Shot spotters are meters placed across New York City that detect the sound of gunshots—after determining the approximate location of the shots, the meters relay information to 911 operations, who then initiate police response.”
When the police arrived in Harlem, they attempted to disperse a crowd of close to 500 people who were gathered in the area.
O’Donnell said:
“Several individuals threw glass bottles and objects at the officers.”
Some of the debris and glass bottles thrown caused damage to a windshield and driver’s side window on a NYPD vehicle. After this incident, the police union tweeted that Mayor Bill de Blasio and City Council Speaker Corey Johnson “should be held responsible for surrendering our city.”

According to O’Donnell:
“Additional police units were requested to the scene and verbal orders to disperse were issues to the large group—the officers’ attempts to move towards the crown were once again met by bottles and debris thrown at them.”
This video was posted live on an Instagram account belonging to @bagluck_.
According to CNN, the person who posted the video wrote on Instagram that the crowd gathered wasn’t a protest, but a “gather with good vibes,” and that the only thing the incident has to do with the Black Lives Matter movement is that “the youth are sick of police abusing their authority and it’s too late to apologize.”
The search is on as police look for the suspect who allegedly threw objects at NYPD vehicles.
According to Joseph Giacalone, a professor of criminal justice at John Jay College:
“This is the kind of lawlessness we’re starting to see in New York City and if it’s not stopped and not stopped soon, it’s only going to get exponentially worse. Our elected leaders haven’t been helping much including City Council and especially the mayor.”

O’Donnell said the crowd dispersed around 6:20 a.m. on Sunday, roughly two and a half hours after police originally responded to the scene.
O’Donnell said:
“No officers were injured during the incident; there are no arrests and the investigation is ongoing.”
New York City has seen a dramatic surge in shootings and gun violence across its city over the last month. Police say 11 people were shot in less than 12 hours and the department’s shooting database logged 59 shooting incidents last week, compared to 26 during the same period last year, accord to the NYPD.

On Saturday, a man and women were shot dead in broad daylight by a gunman armed with an AR-15. The suspect, who has been identified as Charles Hernandez, 47, wore a blonde wig as he gunned down the two victims. Law enforcement sources said that the suspect fired nearly two dozen rounds at the scene.
Through Saturday, the City has seen more than 500 hundred shootings year to date.
NYPD Chief of Department Terry Monahan says that while other crimes are down, violent crimes and shootings are up.
We had another 24 shooting victims in 24 hours yesterday: 17 shootings with 24 victims. That makes 59 shootings with 89 victims for the week as of this morning.https://t.co/zmuJtV7y5K

Chief Monahan said:
“There are a number of reasons for the increase including bail reform, the George Flyod protests and the animosity toward police officers. If you listen to the city council, they want less policing; they want to defund the police, but as I look out there right now with the violence going on, it’s not a good sign.
“We need some clarity from the city council and from the communities we serve, exactly how they want to be policed.”
Meanwhile, attempted cop killers in New York are getting out of jail free.
When you think of stories about cops and criminals in the state of New York, some might assume that the story is coming out of New York City. However, over the past few months, the city of Buffalo has been in a lot of news cycles.
One of the events that made news was that of Deyanna Davis, who is accused of running over a New York State Trooper and injuring two others. She’s on the verge of being released from jail while awaiting trial, after Judge Jeremiah McCarthy ruled that the state did not meet the burden of proof to show Davis was too much of a danger to keep her in jail.
McCarthy said that prosecutors did not present a compelling argument.
According to WGRZ, Davis is also facing includes possession of an illegal firearm, but the defense team argues it was not hers.
“But Judge McCarthy says the evidence in the case shows someone else in the car had the weapon, and Davis’ defense attorney argues that Davis initially was trying to go to the store and was trying to seek medical care after being shot.
‘No one can actually tell us when my client was shot, no one can tell us who shot my client, and all the evidence seems to show that she did not move that vehicle until she started to experience gunfire,’ said Sam Davis, Davis’ attorney. They are not related.
‘If the government isn’t able to get a higher judge to listen by Tuesday at 5, then we can all spring into action and get her home or to the hospital actually to continue healing from the gunshot wounds,’ Davis said.”
Prosecutors are contesting the judge’s decision. They do have until 5 PM on Tuesday to submit the documents that oppose her release.
Davis, who was also charged with attempted robbery in 2009 and intimidating a witness in 2013, is no stranger to to the criminal justice system. Should the DA’s office fail to file or convince a judge to overturn the decision, she could be scheduled for release, assuming that a stipulation is met.
That stipulation is $200,000 bond. That figure is to be achieved through several other family members each securing $25,000 to pay that bond.
If she is released, she would be electronically monitored.
There are multiple “defenses’ of Davis’ actions. One being that she only drove forward after being shot and being unable to back up. One Twitter user said she was shot by police. Another user said she hit the cop because she had faulty breaks.

Neither of those accounts match what police say happened.
According to New York State Police Troop A Commander Major James Hall, the injured officers were stationed at a Bailey Avenue, simply acting as a line barrier.
He stated that there were instances of rocks being thrown, among other things, but described the moment when the SUV came gunning toward the line of officers:
“Traffic was stopped in front of the line and the individual that’s driving the SUV went around and ran into the line and injured the officers, all three of them.”
There was also a petition being circulated asking for her release, cause she is a mother and an ‘advocate’. She is also someone with a criminal record who is alleged to have run over a cop and is facing charges, among others, of attempted murder and aggravated assault.
Please sign this petition to free Deyanna Davis from the Erie County Holding Center in Buffalo. She's a mother and an advocate and the powers that be are not acknowledging her.

Here is the original story we brought you regarding the circumstances surrounding this event.
Police say that three individuals are now facing charges after an SUV reportedly ran into a police line in Buffalo, New York which resulted in three officers being injured.

According to New York State Police Troop A Commander Major James Hall, the injured officers were stationed at Bailey Avenue, simply acting as a line barrier:
“Those individuals made up of State Police and Buffalo Police personnel, and we were just holding a line on the road.”
Major Hall noted that all the officers were attempting to do was ensure the streets remained safe for those who were peacefully demonstrating.

“Traffic was stopped in front of the line and the individual that’s driving the SUV went around and ran into the line and injured the officers, all three of them.”
The three officers injured were identified as Officer Joseph Walters from the Buffalo Police Department and Troopers Ronald Ensminger and Randall Shenefiel from the New York State Police. Trooper Ensminger sustained a broken leg and pelvis, which is said to require surgery.
Officer Walters was said to have suffered a broken leg and Trooper Shenefiel’s hand was reportedly injured as a result of the impact.
The SUV’s driver, as well as the two passengers, are facing charges.
Deyanna Davis was said to be the driver of the SUV, and is scheduled for an arraignment on June 3rd for charges related to felony assaulting of an officer.
Davis is also facing charges along with the two vehicle occupants Walter Stewart and Sermaj Pigram, which are criminal possession of a weapon and criminal possession of stolen property.

The weapons and stolen property charges are said to have stemmed from a gun found inside of the SUV that was reported stolen earlier this year, according to Erie County District Attorney John Flynn:
“There was a gun, an illegal weapon, that was found in the back of that car. Mr. Pigram and Mr. Stewart were charged with criminal possession of a weapon, in addition to criminal possession of stolen property, because that gun that was found in the car was reported stolen in January.”
Bail amounts have already been determined for Pigram and Stewart, which was $100,000 for Pigram and $175,000 for Stewart.
The reason for Stewart having a higher bail amount was due to an existing warrant for his arrest, according to Flynn.

Two of the vehicle occupants were said to have suffered gun shot wounds at some point during the incident. Flynn said investigators are trying to determine whether the wounds came from inside the vehicle, from outside agitators, or from police firing at the vehicle.
Elsewhere within the state of New York, there’s an ongoing manhunt in The Big Apple related to two officers injured in a hit and run.
Both officers are hospitalized but are expected to survive.
The first happened in the Bronx early Tuesday, when the officer was mowed down at the intersection of East 170th Street and Walton Avenue in Mt. Eden by the driver of a dark sedan.
The incident was captured via dramatic footage that police hope will help locate the suspect.
The officer was rushed to Bellevue Hospital.
In the video of the hit-and-run, which was posted to Twitter, you can see the officer get launched into the air and hit another vehicle after being struck.
“That’s a f—ing cop,” a woman recording the footage says after impact. “Oh s–t!”
The officer lands in the middle of the intersection and several other people, who are believed to be officers, rush over.
An NYPD van rushes in and the injured officer is put in the vehicle.
“Oh my God, oh my God!” witnesses can be heard saying.
Just moments after, three more police vehicles show up and the van carrying the wounded officer drives off.
The witness later said on social media there were helicopters in the area “chasing that car down.”
Another officer was hit by a vehicle when he tried to stop a cellphone store burglary on Eighth Street in Manhattan.
Few details are available on that attack, but police have said no arrests have been made in either case.
