Nutrition – Why is more important than how

Now that we are closing in on 2018, you, along with thousands of other LEOs, may be thinking about what you can do next year to start taking better care of yourself.

If you’re like me, you probably think that it’s pointless to start another “diet” for the New Year, because you’re too busy with work and your personal life.

Or maybe since it didn’t work the last few times, you’re just wasting your time and money if you try it again.

The only reason I feel your pain, is because I was in the same frame of mind myself while working this crazy career.

I would constantly go EOW, stopping at the drive thru to stress eat after a long 12-hour shift, only to fuel my body with unhealthy junk, thus keeping the hamster wheel turning.

Then I found a way to get out of this cycle.

It took me about 7 years before I figured out what my problem was. I was over complicating this whole food thing.

I thought doing research on the Internet into fad diets, fat burners, and focusing on the external changes first is what would help me. Thinking that I needed to follow an expensive meal plan, or spend my entire day off in the kitchen preparing food prevented me from buying into any kind of paid service.

I mean, we have Google, right?

Let me be the first to tell you from experience, searching the Internet alone won’t work.

What I’ve found to be the solution is learning more about how food works.

What happens when you eat certain foods versus others?

Why do certain foods and plans work for some people, and not you?

Why does your body respond differently to certain foods based on your body type, and how you can take advantage of that to get the long term sustainable results you deserve?

A lot of these questions center around your body, which is different than anyone else in the world, and once you understand what works and doesn’t work as well as understanding why, you’re off to the races.

These are just a few things that if you understood, would make it much easier on you.

Think about it.

How many times have you been told to do something at work, but you had no idea WHY you were asked to do it that way.

Back in the old school we would have just done it, but things have changed.

Now, we want to know why. Not because we don’t respect authority, but because we like to understand how things work. Understand why we are doing it one way and not the others. We become aware.

Once it makes sense in our minds, we are more likely to get it done.

That’s exactly how nutrition works. When you understand the why behind it, you’ll find yourself motivated and consistent more than ever.

The how is important too, but it should never come before the why. If you have a problem with motivation or consistency, it’s because you haven’t visited the why yet.

Awareness is the power of change, understanding what I was doing (or not doing), is what gave me the power to make the change, and it will you too.

I’m not talking complex chemistry here. I’m talking a little more than just a basic understanding so you can make better decisions on your own.

So how do you learn?

You have a few options, but I would like to steer you in a direction if you’re ready for some help.

You may be thinking this will take years, it’s too complicated, or costs too much money, but that’s just not the case.

I mean, I guess those are an option, but I wouldn’t recommend them.

For me, that was learning by becoming a Precision Nutrition Level 1 coach. For most that isn’t convenient at about 6 months’ worth of training and over $1000.

For some of you that might be an option and if so, do a quick search and become a coach . . . but that’s too much to ask for most.

There is a second alternative that will save you both time and money, and it’s something I’ve created just for LEOs.

It all starts with a free online nutrition training I have created to help you get started, no matter whether you join the full program afterward or not.

The training will explain what you need to know to simplify nutrition, and make this year your healthiest one ever.

The details of the free training are up at marchildebrand.com/nutritionwebinar. The training is done all online and you can watch from anywhere, whether that’s a phone, tablet, or computer. Choose the date/time that works best for you.

Regardless of whether you join us for the training, connect with someone who can help teach you more about how food works. It’s best if it’s someone within our field who knows what it is you do for a living and has seen success themselves.

That makes all the difference in the world.

Thanks for reading, and stay safe out there.
