Cape Coral Police Department received a significant donation from Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger, which will allows them to expand their K9 training.
The Giving Back Fund presented a check in the amount of $9,974 to the police department. It is intended to help build a new obedience obstacle course to provide better training for their K9.
Cape Coral Public Affairs Officer Dana Coston said that police K9 are the pro-athletes in the world of dogs, and daily training is necessary to keep them in top form. “Thank you to the Ben Roethlisberger Foundation for making this possible,” she said.
This is the 10th season the Roethlisberger Foundation has awarded grants to K9 units in surrounding communities. “We’re very fortunate to be in the position that we are able to help these K9 units,” Roethlisberger said. “The work that is performed by the dogs and their handlers, as well as the bond that is formed, is incredible. We’re just thrilled to do our small part.”
