The New Jersey State Police have confirmed that the body found off the coast of Wildwood is that of a missing Middle Township Police Officer, Jason Sill, 39.  Sill’s body was found by a boater 6 nautical miles off the coast about 3:00 p.m. The boater summoned the Coast Guard to the scene and they retrieved the body from the water. A preliminary identification was made by matching tattoos, but the identity was not released until the medical examiner was able to confirm that the body was Officer Jason Sill.

Sill was last seen in the morning hours of August 27 as he took his boat out of Pier 47 Marina for a day of fishing in the bay.  Witnesses state that Sill was alone in the vessel.  About an hour and fifteen minutes after his departure from the marina, Sill’s vessel was found unoccupied about a mile off shore by the Coast Guard and members of the New Jersey State Police – Atlantic City Marine Station.  This started the search and rescue mission.

The cause and manner of Sill’s death are still under investigation. Investigators will study wind direction and speed along with water currents in an attempt to determine why there was such a great distance between the vessel and Sill’s body.  No cause of death has been determined and no details are being released at this time.

Officer Jason Sill was a 13 -ear veteran of the Middle Township Police Department and his wife, Madonna is a police dispatcher with the same agency.    The couple has an 18 year old daughter.
