NBA legend: Performing separate “Black National Anthem” “undermining” to national unity and healing

Let’s just call him the “anti-Kaepernick.”

This week, NBA legend Isiah Thomas slammed the NFL for their virtue signaling woke new policy of having the so-called “black national anthem” played before all NFL games, saying it is “emphasizing our separateness” while undermining national unity and healing, Breitbart reports.

The comments were made in an interview with columnist Jason Whitlock on an episode of “Fearless with Jason Whitlock” on The Blaze.

“When you sing the national anthem and then you sing the black national anthem, the only thing that it does is it’s emphasizing our separateness.”

The NFL, along with a majority of major league sports has thrown down with the revolution, using virtue signaling such as this to show how “diverse” they are, while disregarding roughly one-half of its fan base.

The so-called black national anthem, “Lift Ev’ry Voice and Sing” was first played in NFL stadiums last year, however this year became required at all NFL games. For Thomas, this isn’t a good idea.

“Our Founding Fathers, when they wrote the constitution and everything else, they were talking about bringing us together under one umbrella, under one constitution, where all men and women are created equal,” Thomas told Whitlock.

“When you use those two different anthems, you’re just emphasizing…there are two different statuses in this country. Black and White.”

Only in woke major league sports is playing two segregated national anthems considered bridging the gap instead of dividing it.

Thomas continued, noting that the whole idea of race is used primarily to divide people and is s “false social construct.” He has used his experience as a black man, as well as his studies at UC Berkeley, where he earned his master’s degree to emphasize that lesson.

“If you want to have one national anthem, then let’s come together collectively and decide what the national anthem is going to be for this country,” Thomas continued.

“Not just the white national anthem, because the white national anthem has classified as status.”

Whitlock agreed with Thomas and said that even if the original national anthem wasn’t written for black people (although there really is no reason to believe as much), he said that it was important for blacks to accept the current national anthem, the Star-Spangled Banner as their own in order to unify the country.

Whitlock opposes the black national anthem on principle and pushed back on the idea of a new song for everyone.

“That Declaration of Independence, Constitution, and national anthem, it worked for us,” Whitlock said.

“Maybe it wasn’t intended for us, but it did work for us.”

In speaking to Thomas’s statement, Whitlock said he was pointing out the obvious.

“He was pointing out the obvious that I think we all agree on,” Whitlock said.

“You can’t have two national anthems if you want to be one country.”

In an interview on Fox News, Whitlock said the two-hour conversation with Thomas focused primarily on the racial division in the U.S.

“Anybody that’s a rational person realizes two national anthems is unhealthy. It’s not unifying.”

Whitlock, a longtime and frequent critic of Black Lives Matter also slammed that organization for the divide in the country.

“The NFL has bent over backward for Black Lives Matter and the Marxist agenda and has adopted practices that totally contradict everything you’re taught in team sports and everything that the NFL was about.”

He noted that up until recent years, football Sunday in the U.S. used to be a day of “unconditional unity” until the NFL decided to get involved with politics by “kissing the ring” of the BLM movement.

Whitlock said the interview with Thomas was something of a “journey,” with Thomas embracing the opportunity to challenge his background of “far-left thinking” as a graduate from the uber left Berkeley.

“So some of what you hear will be like, ‘Wow! I totally get it. I agree,’” he said. “And then you’ll hear like, ‘Well, this is a man at odds with himself.’”

In case you missed it, we recently published an article about liberal talk show host Bill Maher, who slammed the NFL for bowing to wokeness by playing the black national anthem. For more on that, we invite you to:

DIG DEEPER

During a recent episode of Real Time with Bill Maher, show host Maher took aim at proponents on the left pushing for what he sees as racially divisive endeavors, specifically pointing out the recitation of the “black national anthem” at NFL games and de facto segregation under the guise of progressiveness transpiring at universities.

During the September 10th episode of Real Time with Bill Maher, Maher acknowledged during a segment that some of his fans and viewers have been giving him grief over his criticism of the left in recent years, to which Maher said the following about that notion:

“When people say to me sometimes, ‘boy, you go after the Left a lot these days, why?’ I’m like because you’re embarrassing me. That’s why I’m going after the left in a way you never did before.

Because you’re inverting on things that I – I’m not going to give up on being liberal. This is what these teachers are talking about, you’re taking children and making them hyper-aware of race in a way they wouldn’t otherwise be.”

Maher pointed to the recent example of this hyper-racialized narrative taking hold, citing the first NFL game of the season where the song “Lift Every Voice and Sing” was performed prior to kickoff, serving as a second national anthem for black Americans:

“I mean, I saw last night on the football game, Alicia Keys sang ‘Lift Every Voice and Sing’ which now I hear is called the black national anthem. Now maybe we should get rid of our national anthem, but I think we should have one national anthem.”

Maher says the road the country is headed down if these sorts of practices are continued and promoted as being a good thing will result in nothing more than a dressed-up version of segregation:

“I think when you go down a road where you have two different national anthems, colleges sometimes now have many of them – have different graduation ceremonies for black and white…separate dorms. This is what I mean, segregation, you’ve inverted the idea. We’re going back to that under a different name.”

Back in July, the NFL announced that the organization will have “Lift Every Voice and Sing” played before certain “tentpole games” during this season, claiming that this effort falls in line with the organization’s 10-year, $250 million pledge to fight racism.

Players are also given the choice to adorn decals on the back of their helmets during games, which players can choose from decals either saying “End Racism,” “Stop Hate,” “It Takes All of Us,” “Black Lives Matter,” “Inspire Change” or “Say Their Stories.”

Bill Maher eviscerates American education system, absolutely shreds Biden’s “America Families Plan”

(Originally published June 7th, 2021)

LOS ANGELES, CA – HBO’s Real Time with Bill Maher host Bill Maher blasted the President’s “America Families Plan” on Friday, saying it endorses the idea “that the more time humans spend in classrooms, staring at blackboards, the better.”

Maher, once a stalwart for liberal causes, has turned against his makers as the Left moves toward a more radical “woke” culture labeled progressiveness.  On Friday, that could not have been more evident as he began his “New Rule” monologue.

Maher said that higher education in America is “a racket that sells you an expensive ticket up to the middle class”.

He supported his argument by pointing out that Biden’s America Families Plan calls for “hundreds of Billions” of taxpayers’ dollars to pay for everyone to go to college, and billions more for childcare so people can go back to school.

The Real Time host said that Biden’s plan endorses too much expense for too low a payoff in education:

“Biden’s plan is an endorsement of a particular idea that the more time humans spend in classrooms staring at blackboards the better. Liberals see more school the way Republicans seem to see tax cuts, as the answer to everything.”

Maher derided claims that education is the solution to income inequality in the United States, a topic Democrats have been discussing at length in political debate for years. Maher said:

“We imagine going to college as the way to fight income inequality, but actually, it does the reverse.

“If you have a bachelor’s degree, you make about 65 percent more than someone who doesn’t, and with a master’s degree, it’s more like 100 percent more. And the unemployment rate of college grads is about half what it is for high school grads.

“Therefore, he asked, “Is it really liberal for someone who doesn’t go to college and makes less money to pay for people who do go and make more?”

Maher continued to call colleges and universities “giant, luxury daycare centers, with overpaid babysitters anxious to indulge every student whim.”

To the laughter of his audience, Maher gave as an example a photograph of the University of Missouri, showing a student river grotto “inspired by the Playboy mansion.”  He also mentioned Georgia Tech’s large water park.

Maher said students are not being properly educated, meaning tuition funds are wasted:

“A third of students spend less than five hours a week studying, and when they do, it’s for their onerous, magnum cum bullshit course load of Sports Marketing, History through Twitter, Advanced Racist spotting, Intro to Micro Aggressions, and You Owe Me an Apology 101.

“Why is China kicking our ass? Because in 2019, we issued more undergrad degrees in visual and performing arts than in computer and information science or math.”

College is business, and business is about making money, Maher explained. Colleges offer a degree in exchange for funds and sell students a product at an increasingly higher cost than the value of the education they receive. Maher quipped:

“Colleges are businesses selling a consumer product for hundreds of thousands of dollars, and they want to give the customers what they want, a magical piece of paper called a diploma.

“But that is only the beginning of the scam. A want-to-be Librarian needs a Master’s Degree just to get an entry-level job filing books.

“In the grift that is our higher education, when you want to ‘move up’ — hold on there, not so fast, toll booth ahead — you need to pay for more ‘education’ before we decide if you can do what you do. This is what Scientology does, makes you keep taking courses to move up to the bridge of total freedom.”

According to Maher, the average cost of college has risen over 500 percent since 1985 and increases yearly at four times the rate of inflation. He said the system is broken, and the answer is not to increase the number of college graduates, it is to decrease the need for them:

“The answer isn’t to make college free. The answer is to make it more unnecessary, which it is for most jobs, so that the two-thirds of Americans who either can’t afford to or don’t want to go, don’t feel shut out.”
