Sheriff Michael Waters of the Pawnee County Sheriff’s Department in Oklahoma, sadly reports the death of Undersheriff Monty Johnson.
Undersheriff Johnson, 63, was killed in a two-vehicle collision as he was driving to work. Johnson was driving his marked patrol vehicle to pick up a co-worker and head to a training seminar when he was struck head on by another vehicle that had crossed the centerline of the roadway.
Johnson was pronounced dead at the scene. The crash investigation is being conducted by troopers of the Oklahoma Highway Patrol. Preliminary reports indicate that for an unknown reason, the driver of a pickup truck lost control of his vehicle leaving the roadway to the right. The driver over corrected and crossed the centerline of the roadway striking Johnson’s patrol vehicle head on.
