Chief David Roddy of the Chattanooga Police Department in Tennessee sadly reports the death of Officer Nicholas Galinger.
Officer Galinger, 38, was struck and killed by a hit and run vehicle as he was inspecting a road hazard. Galinger was checking a manhole cover that had water flowing out of the openings when a passing vehicle struck him. He was with his field training officer at the time he was hit.
As a result, Galinger sustained critical injuries and was transported to a local hospital where he passed away a short time later.

Galinger’s death comes just two days after a 21-year veteran of the department, training Sgt. John Monroe, died unexpectedly while off-duty at his home.

All state and local agencies are searching for the suspect vehicle and driver, which remain at large.
Galinger had just graduated from the police academy in January of this year and served the Chattanooga Police Department for one month. His wife, children and parents survive him.
Officer Nicholas Galinger is gone, but will never be forgotten.
