Chief James Conroy of the DeKalb County Police Department in Georgia sadly reports the death of Officer Edgar Flores.
Officer Flores, 24, died as a result of a gunshot wound he sustained during a traffic stop. Flores stopped a vehicle for a traffic violation and during the traffic stop, the suspect driver exited the vehicle and fled on foot.
A foot pursuit followed and during the pursuit, the suspect obtained a firearm from his waistband, turned and fired upon Flores, striking him. The suspect then continued to flee on foot.
Other officers pursued him and when a canine located him behind a business, the suspect fired upon the canine critically wounding him. Officers returned fire killing the suspect. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is conducting the investigation into the incident.

Officer Edgar Flores served the DeKalb County Police Department for 18 months. His parents and siblings survive him.
Officer Edgar Flores is gone, but will never be forgotten.
