Chief Mark Denney of the Colerain Township Police Department in Ohio sadly reports the death of Officer Dale Woods.
Officer Woods, 46, died as a result of injuries he sustained after being struck by a vehicle at an accident scene.
Woods was moving traffic cones at a crash scene to allow a utility company vehicle access. While doing so, he was struck by a passing pick-up truck.
As a result, Woods was transported to the University of Cincinnati Medical Center where he remained in the intensive care unit until his condition deteriorated and he succumbed to his injuries three days later.
The Cincinnati Police Department is conducting the crash investigation that resulted in Woods death.
Woods dedicated his entire life to serving his community. In death he still serves his community with his life through organ donation.
“There are some guys you teach how to be policemen, and there are some guys who are born to be policemen,” an emotional Chief Denney said Monday night.
Dale Woods had thirty years experience of public service in the fields of police and fire service. He served the last 15 years with the Colerain Township Police Department. His wife and three children survive him.
