Public Security Secretary Hector Pesquera which covers the area of the Juncos Municipal Police Department in Puerto Rico sadly reports the death of Officer Andres Laza-Caraballo.
Officer Laza-Caraballo, 31, was shot and killed at a barber shop. He was waiting for a haircut when four persons started smoking marijuana in front of the shop. According to reports they were also armed with handguns and rifles. The owner asked the people to leave and they refused. Moreover, they responded to the owner’s request by assaulting him.
Laza-Caraballo identified himself as a police officer and ordered them to leave the premises. The suspects then opened fire at Laza-Caraballo, striking him with the gunfire.
The officer returned fire wounding one and killing another. However, two suspects fled and remain at large.
Andres Laza-Caraballo served the Juncos Municipal Police Department for 10 years. He was actually on vacation at the time of the attack.
Laza-Caraballo is survived by his two children.
Officer Andres Laza-Caraballo is gone, but will never be forgotten.
