Chief Daniel J. Oates of the Miami Beach Police Department in Florida sadly reports the death of Detective Larry Marrero.
Det. Marrero, 58, suffered a medical emergency while participating in the department physical fitness program. Other officers rendered basic life support to Marrero and he was transported to Mount Sinai Medical Center where he later passed away.
The Miami-Dade County Medical Examiner’s Office determined that Marrero suffered a massive heart attack.

“Detective Marrero was a consummate professional who always excelled in his assignments,” the department said in a statement. “Revered as a leader among his peers and supervisors alike, Larry will be truly missed.”

Marrero served the Miami Beach Police Department for 28 years. He served in a variety of capacities, some of which were marine patrol, school resource officer, auto theft and homicide investigator. He was also a member of the department’s SWAT team. He was currently assigned to conduct background investigations at the time of his death. His wife and two children survive him.
Detective Larry Marrero is gone, but will never be forgotten.
