Sheriff Jeremy Kelley of the Glascock County Sheriff’s Department in Georgia sadly reports the death of Deputy Sheriff Joshua Ryer Jr.
Deputy “LJ” Ryer, 19, died as a result of injuries he sustained in a two-vehicle collision. Ryer was traveling to the Regional Youth Detention Center in Washington to pick up an inmate.
While he was enroute, Ryer failed to stop at a stop sign and his patrol unit was struck in the driver’s side door by another vehicle. As a result, he sustained fatal injuries in the crash and died shortly after the collision.
The Georgia State Highway Patrol is investigating the crash.

Deputy Ryer served the Glascock County Sheriff’s Department for only five months after graduating from the police academy at the Augusta Technical College. His parents and siblings survive him.
